PEARL KATHRYNE STUTEVILLE Pearl Kathryne Stuteville, 91, of Lamoni, Iowa, daughter of Alva David and Katherine Adeline (Dickerson) Bixby, was born March 10, 1909 in Bloomington, Nebraska and died at Lamoni Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on January 23, 2001. Pearl graduated from high school in Holden, Missouri. She then attended the Sanitarium School of Nursing in Independence, Missouri and graduated as a Registered Nurse. Pearl worked in hospitals in Kansas City and Independence . She was a camp nurse for a German POW camp in Colorado in 1944 and 1945. Much of her nursing career centered around early hospice work. Pearl lived in patients' homes, where she provided an uplifting, caring environment until their deaths. Pearl also lived with families during difficult pregnancies, through deliveries, and mother-child care after births. While working at Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa, Pearl met patient Archie Gerald Stuteville. She and Archie were married the spring of 1947 in the home of Archie's sister and brother-in-law, Glendean and Ham Graves. One daughter, Sally Ann, was born to Pearl and Archie. The family made their home in Leon. Pearl continued as a nurse until her health declined. Pearl and Archie retired to Oklahoma City, OK in 1975, to be near Sally's family. They were both a great help with their three grandchildren. Archie died in 1983, and Pearl moved to Crown Colony in Lamoni in 1989. Besides caring for her family, Pearl enjoyed crocheting, home decorating, canning, and cooking. She is lovingly remembered for her wonderful home cooking. Diagnosed with diabetes in her early 60s, Pearl was a courageous fighter who endured many difficult physical battles with her disease. She had a great spirit and said about her life, " I did what my soul wanted me to do- nursing the sick and feeding people." Pearl was baptized and confirmed into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints while she was growing up. As an adult, she was a member of the Leon Congregation, and the Lamoni Congregation ministered to her during her later years. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Archie; grandson Tom Creger; four brothers, Ira Alva "Joe", Ora, Robert and Glen Bixby; and step sister, Mary Katherine"Scottie" Mulvaney. She is survived by her daughter, Sally Lakin and husband Jim of Lakeville, Minnesota; two step daughters, Marcella Creger of Long Beach, CA, and Madelyn Warren of Lafayette, CO; grandchildren, Tracey Carson and husband Dan of Glen Rock, New Jersey, Margaret Lakin and Greag Hardigan of Chicago, IL, Matthew Lakin of Lakeville, John and Jim Creger of California, Janette Cruz of Salem, Oregon, and Julia Ballard of Lafayette; great grandchildren: Isabella, Willie, and Charlie Carson and Amy and Robert Ballard; two sisters, Elva "Toots" Cox of Westminster, Colorado, and Mary Spillman of Lamoni; sister-in-law, Frances Bixby of Lamoni and Bonnie Ingelman and husband Elmer of Mesa, AZ; nieces, nephews, and cousins; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Friday, January 26, 2001 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Lamoni, Iowa with Elder Bud Atwood officiating. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni. A memorial fund has been established by the family. GERTRUDE LOUISE KRYZSKO Gertrude Louise Kryzsko, 88, Holden, Missouri, passed away January 23, 2001 at Holden Manor Care Center, Holden, Missouri. She was born February 20, 1912 in Beach, North Dakota, the daughter of Roy and Harriet (Lake) Hayes. Mrs. Kryzsko had lived in Miles City, Montana most of her life, where she was raised with her family. In 1996 she moved to Holden. She was a member of the Four Square Church in Miles City, Montana. She is survived by one daughter, Marian Jackson, Holden; three brothers, Leland Hayes, Escaledo, CA, Burl Hayes, Chico, CA, and Burin Hayes, Helena, MT; four grandchildren, John Pratt, Ernie Goff, Judy Fannin, and Ruthann Fletcher; two great granddaughters, Sydney and Samantha; three great nephews, Derick, Brent and Christopher Fannin. She was preceded in death by one brother, Leslie Hayes in 1998. Pallbearers were Jeff Fannin, Ernie Goff, A.L. Brashears, and Ronnie Davis. Graveside service and burial was held Saturday, January 27, 2001 at Pittsville Cemetery, under the direction of Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home, Holden. Reverend Dwight Decker officiated. MARGARET (PEGGY) ANN ALLEN Margaret (Peggy) Ann Allen passed away at her home in Independence, Missouri, Thursday, January 25, 2001, after a long illness. She was born May 14, 1955. She was 45 years, eight months and 11 days old. A brief service was held at her bedside at noon with members of her family and a few close friends present. Survivors include her fiance, James Edgerton, of the home; one son Phillip Jeremy Spurgeon, Lee's Summit; one daughter, Jessica Lee Hughes, Kingsville; one granddaughter, Alyssa Danielle; her mother, Mrs. Dorothy Allen, Holden; three brothers, Donald Allen, Mankato, MN, Larry Allen, Webb City, MO and Richard Allen, Havelock, NC; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Phil H. Allen, February 16, 1968 and one brother, James Keith Allen, November 21, 1945. Her body was donated to science. BETTY MARIE JASPER Betty Marie Jasper, 88, Pleasant Hill, Missouri passed away Monday, January 22, 2001 at Pleasant Hill Health and Rehab Center, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. She was born November 7, 1912 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of William Thomas and Mary "Maime" Harris (Ireland) McCuistion. On April 19, 1930 she married Leslie Merrill Jasper in Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death October 27, 1986. Mrs. Jasper grew up in the Kansas City area. She and her husband moved to Holden in 1952. She worked on their farm for many years, running an egg route between the surrounding counties, and Kansas City. She had also worked for a few years as a sales clerk for Sears and Roebuck, in Kansas City, Missouri. She enjoyed playing bridge with a club in Kansas City, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, fishing, cooking, and was quite a hand at repairing things. She was a member of the Kingsville Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed by her family. Survivors include seven grandchildren, Debi Brooks and husband Russ, Dale Jasper and wife Patty, Denise Brooks and husband Les, Daryl Jasper, Lori Perkins and husband Scott, all of Holden; Leslie Ogden and husband John, Blue Springs, and Larry Anderson, Centerview; twelve great grandchildren, Amber Davis, St. Mary's, Georgia, Lindsey, Jami and Kelli Ogden, Blue Springs, Heath, Heather, and Shane Brooks, Jared and Stephen Jasper, April Davis, Malcolm Perkins and Mitchell Jasper, all of Holden. She was preceded in death by one son, Douglas L. Jasper; a daughter, Donna M. Anderson; two sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held Saturday , January 27, 2001 at Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home, Holden. Reverend John McRoy and Reverend Quinton Grosshart officiated. Julie Stout, organist, accompanied Becky Vick, soloist. Music included "Amazing Grace," and "In the Garden." Pallbearers were Dale Jasper, Daryl Jasper, Larry Anderson, John Ogden, Russ Brooks, Les Brooks, Scott Perkins, and Ray Timmons. Honorary pallbearers were Orval Hays, Joe Pottorf, Bill Schultz, Gene McCloud, and Bob Anderson. Interment was at Holden Cemetery. CHLOE NOEL RICHEY Chloe Noel Richey, 28 days, Centerview, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. She was born December 25, 2000 at Western Missouri Medical Center, Warrensburg, the daughter of Shawn Michael and Cindy Michelle Blankenship Richey. She is survived by her parents, of the home; one sister, Alison Bailey Richey, of the home; maternal grandfather, Roger Blankenship, Fountain Run, KY; maternal grandmother, Linda Blankenship, Gosport IN; and paternal grandmother, Jean Uplinger, Terra Haute, IN. VERNA MORTENSON Verna Mortenson, 61, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at her home. She was born Saturday, September 23, 1939, in Viroqua, Wisconsin, the daughter of Theodore H. and Amanda L. Olson Mortenson. She moved to Kansas City in 1949 from Detroit, Michigan. In 1958 she started her banking career at Surburban Bank, then she was vice president at Goppert Bank, later worked at Centerre and Boatmans Banks and most recently was mortgage and loan facilitator for Bank of America, all in Kansas City, and a member of Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church, Kansas City. She is survived by one sister, Lois Baughman and her husband John, Holden; three nieces, Kari Collett and husband Don, Warrensburg, Kris Baughman, Pleasant Hill, and Karen Stoner and husband Ronnie, Holden; one nephew, Alan Mortenson, Independence; three great nieces , Emily and Bailey Collett, and Emma Stoner; two great nephews, Rylan and Dylan Collett; and special friends, Alice Wilson and Sophie Audsley. She was preceded in death brother, Frank D. Mortenson. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 28, 2001 at the Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church, Kansas City, Missouri, under the direction of Williams Funeral Chapel. Rev. John Schmid officiated. Interment will be held Thursday, February 1, 2001 at Coon Prairie Cemetery Westby, Wisconsin. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Arthritis or Diabetes Foundation.
