BERT MAJOR BEALS Bert Major Beals, 79, Roach, Missouri, passed away Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001 at the University of Missouri Hospital and clinics in Columbia. He was born on October 1, 1021 in Independence, Missouri the son of the late Bert and Hulda Johnson Beals. Major was married on July 29, 1944 to Betty Carter. He retired from the lithography trade in Kansas City, Missouri in 1981 and moved to the Lake of the Ozarks, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1943 then entered the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1944 during the WWII also a member of the VFW Osage Beach. He is survived by his wife, Betty Beals of the home; one son, Zachary Beals and wife, Barbara, Holden; one daughter, Becky Groff and husband, Joe, Stockton, MO; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Butcher, Independence, Julie Ruhe, Illinois; Maxine Covey, a true family friend; two sisters, Marguerite Rathbun, Independence, and Deanna Henion and husband, Robert, Reed Springs, MO, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Georgia Wade Chapel of the Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton, with Rev. Tracy Carroll officiating. Graveside services and burial will be held Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at the Flora Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. All arrangements are under the direction of the Hedges Funeral Home in Columbia. NONA ROCYLE WENDEL FLEENER Nona Rocyle Wendel Fleener, 77, Warrensburg, MO, passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2001 at Ridgecrest Nursing Center, Warrensburg. Mrs. Fleener was born Thursday, Oct. 4, 1923 near Centerview, MO, the daugther of William McKinley Wendel and Eva Lee Taylor Wendel. She had lived in Johnson County most of her life. She was a 1941 graduate of Chilhowee High School, member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church, and had worked at the Holden Manufacturing Co. from 1962-1964. From 1973-1977 she cared for the elderly. She married Virgil Alfred Fleener, Dec. 20, 1943 in Rogersville, AR. He preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Benson, Warrensburg; two sons, Carl Fleener, Branson, and William Alfred Fleener, Pleasant Hill; sister, Elsie Sexson, Warrensburg; brother, Reuben Wendel, Leeton; fifteen grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Mrs. Fleener was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Dorothy Webster and brother, Clayton Wendel. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Williams Funeral Chapel, Warrensburg. Rev. Robert Basinger will officiate. Vocalists will be Jim and Regina Swofford. Pallbearers will be Johnny Fleener, Bill Whalan, Harold Kirby, Tony Whalan, Chris Scharnhorst, Rob Benson. Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Zywicki, Roy Kirby, Charlier Wiskerchin, and Clyde Fleener. Interment Will be at Chilhowee Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Alzheimers Disease and Related Disorders.
