HOWARD ROY GILLESPIE Howard Roy Gillespie, 66, Kingsville, Missouri, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2001 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri. He was born August 7, 1934, in Ogdensburg, New York, the son of William and Evelyn (Wilson) Gillespie. On October 27, 1955 he married Mary Herod in Lawson, Missouri. He had lived in Lawson, Missouri before moving to Holden in 1980. Howard was a Master Sergeant for the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired in 1971 after 20 years of service as a Civil Engineer. In 1972 he began work for the Missouri Department of Transportation, MODOT, and retired in 1996. Surviving his passing are his wife, Mary Gillespie, of the home; one son, Gary Wayne Gillespie, Holden; one daughter, Deborah Louise Hubbard, Polo, MO; one brother, Frank Gillespie, New York; three sisters, Leona Kellogg, Messina, NY, Emma Blanchard, Norfork, NY, Lera Simpson, Holden; 12 grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two sons, Stephan Ray Gillespie, in 1959, and Robert Keith Gillespie, in 1998; two brothers; and one great granddaughter. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 2, 2001 at Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home, Holden. Rev. John Ketcher officiated. Soloist was Anna Herod. Pallbearers were Bill Robey, Ronnie Wheeler, Bill Morrow, Carl Stumpff, Steve Bryant, Larry Simpson. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Fitterling and Albert Copeland. Interment was at Lawson Cemetery, Lawson, MO with military honors at the graveside. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
