HOWARD DEAN BOWERS Howard Dean Bowers, 56, Centerview, Missouri, formerly of Lee's Summit, passed away Friday, October 26, 2001 at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Mr. Bowers was born Tuesday, July 31, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Harry Henry Bowers and Ella Lorene Hunter Bowers. He was a 1963 Lee's Summit High School graduate and had attended Longview College and the Vo-Tech School in Harrisonville. He had been in the Air Force Reserves in the 1960s. Mr. Bowers was retired from Lucent Technologies, Lee's Summit, MO, where he had been an assembler, packer and in the receiving department. He had also worked at the Lee's Summit Christian Church where he was also a member. Mr. Bowers was a charter member of the Lee's Summit Elks Lodge No. 2804 and was an avid fan of dirt track and Nascar racing. On May 6, 1972 in Lee's Summit, he married E. Elaine Thompson and she survives of the home. Also surviving are two daughters, Shelly Bowers, Tina Mills and husband Kelly, Gainesville, MO; a son, Dean Bowers and fiance' Nichole, Holden; two granddaughters and two grandsons; a sister, Virginia Meeks, Lee's Summit. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, June Smith and a brother, Hillis Bowers. Funeral services were held Monday, October 29, 2001 at Williams Funeral Chapel, Holden. Dr. Alan E. Gatewood officiated. Pallbearers were Joe Walkenhorst; Steve Haas; John Pfeiffer; Wes Bears; Greg Bears and John Boenker. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Bears; Butch Turner and Donald Bears. Interment was at Centerview Cemetery, Centerview, Missouri. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
