Comments: I'm looking for any information on the ancestors of Selena Minerva (Montgomery)(Gragg) Wright and John Wright. Selena was supposedly born in Johnson Co MO in 1822. Her mother was Esther Montgomery born abt 1802 in TN? She married Alexander Gragg and was in the 1830 census in Washington Co MO and then in Henry Co abt 1834. Selena married William Gragg in JoCoMo in 1838 then John Wright by 1842 after William died. I have no information on John Wright's ancestors, but he was reportedly born in KY abt 1821. I don't think he was the John Wright buried in Shiloh, Oak Post, because that John married Eliza Cull. The dates are right tho because my gg Grandfather John died by 1852. John and Selena lived in La Due in Henry Co. MO.

Comments: I found you using "Sherlock" (MAC OS 9). I have two aunts who were born in Johnson County (near Vesta). They where the first and second born of eleven children. The first was born in 1894 (Rena Fern Dyson) and the second in 1896 (Amy Esther Dyson). There parents names (my grandparents) were William Icem Dyson and his wife Anna Mehitable (Stevens) Dyson. I'm interested in any information about my aunts and they Dyson family in Johnson County during these years (1894-1896). Their next child, the third, and also a daughter, was born in 1897 in Nodaway Co., Missouri, so I know this family moved from Johnson County sometime between December, 1986 and August, 1987. Any help you may be to me will be very much appreciated. Sincerely, Denis Graham

Comments: I am interested in anyone on this website who may have read the autobiography of David Reed in the Autobiograpies section. In his work he describes a bushwhacking that took place on a 3 acre wheat field near Chillowee, that was owned by a man named Upton. Family legend has it that our James B. Upton was killed by bushwhackers. James was listed as living in Johnson Co. in 1850 & in nearby Bates Co. in 1860. This event took place probably 1862 or 1863. Are there any civil buffs or historians out there that would have any info. on this? It would seem to me a pretty significant bushwhack since 9 men were lined up & shot to death with their own guns while taking up wheat.

Missouri, particularly William who was there in the 1840's, and Jonas, who was there in 1840, and other early Zimmerman's or Simmerman's. I believe these families came originally from Greenbrier Co, West Virginia. In Pike County, Ohio, in the 1840's, a record in the Common Pleas Court mentions William Zimmerman, of Johnson County, Missouri, as being a brother to Jacob Zimmerman of Pike Co., Ohio. This Jacob had come from Greenbrier Co. (W)VA in the 1840's to Pike Co. OH, as did Henry Zimmerman and John Zimmerman.
