L.C.Hills, my g.g.grandfather, according to family tradition, was
injured in a limestone quarry accident and shortly died. This would have
been around 1876. The quarry,in the Knob Noster area, was either owned
or run by his family. He was married to Francis Blakemore (daughter of
James S. Blakemore of Boone Co., MO) in Pettis Co. in 1876. They had one
daughter, Ella, who was born shortly before or just after her father died.
There was some "bad blood" between L.C.'s wife and his parents, and after
he died she was kicked out of the house. The only other known contact with
his family was when L.C.'s daughter was about 12 yrs. old. I don't know
how long the Hills family was in Johnson Co. It appears they may have come
from Kentucky. I've never been able to locate them in census records, land
records, etc. The marriage record in Pettis Co. is the only firm documentation
I have other than family tradition. I do have a picture of L.C., made from
a tin type years ago. Any clues anyone could give would be appreciated.
