Surnames: PENNINGTON

My brickwall is this man: Charles William PENNINGTON He was born June 1, 1865 in Lebanon, Laclede Co., Missouri. According to his daughter, Charles & two other siblings (Doc & Ollie) were removed from their parents by authorities and adopted out...reason being his father got into some kind of trouble with another man over his wife (who was supposedly Indian). The family that took Charles was named ELY. They let Charles keep the Pennington name. They went to Lee Co. VA where Charles married Emma Stewart on 1/17/1894. Charles & Emma went to Harlan Co., KY where she died in 1911 of typhoid fever. Charles then married Polly King. He & Polly owned a store in Cawood, Harlan Co., KY. Charles was also a deputy sheriff in Harlan Co. prior to his death in 1947. If you can be of any assistance with Charles prior to leaving Missouri, I would be very grateful. Thanks Tammy
