The obituary for Mrs. Miriam Johnston (mother of Miriam Johnston Peck) was reprinted in the Jan 2002 issue of the Lawrence County Historical Society Bulletin. Original date of publication was 22 Jun 1899 in the Fountain & Journal. "Died...Oct 27..of fever, at the residence of her son-in-law, Wm. M. Peck, 5 miles north east of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Miriam Johnston, aged 84 years, 5 months and 27 days....remains were taken to the G. & N. depot and placed upon the train, to be taken to Blakesburg, Iowa to be interred by the side of her husband; who died more than 22 years ago..."
