      *Aug 1890, According to the Sarcoxie Vindicator a very sensational wedding has just taken place In the Forest Home neighborhood, the contracting parties being Miss Ella Stotts, aged 15, and Pleas. Smith, aged 19. It appears that the hymenial vows were uttered at the muzzle of a six shooter in the hands of Betheul Pruitt, brother in-law of Miss Stotts. The curious part of the story is that they had never spoken of marriage and have not been guilty of any wrong. They were taken to the Indian Territory, compelled to take the vows and return. At last report Smith had left the country and the Bride was sorely distressed. The reports are conflicting, as the people of Pierce City who observed them say that they seemed to be very much attached to each other.

He had been ill the last two months. but had been hospitalized for only three weeks. He was born April 12, 1879 at Cassville, Mo., but lived most of his life at Neosho, Mo., where he married Mrs Gertude Taylor in Sept 1930. They came to Arkansas City in 1939. Mr. Pruitt was a member of the Central Christain Church. Survivors are his wife and two sons. Bert Pruitt of Wichita, and Wayne Pruitt of Bedford Ia.; three daughters, Mrs Thelma Berra of Butte Mont., who came here sone time ago to be with her father in his illness, Mrs Opal Vance, Granby, Mo., and Mrs Ruby Self of Wichita, Ks., seven grandchildren; two g-grandchildren; three step sons, Lloyd Taylor, 323 S. B St., Earl Taylor of Beaumont, Tx., and C.T.
