Miss Maud Johnson, of Spring River Prairie is visiting Miss Ethel Shelton. Frank Gillette left for Colorado last week on a health seeking tour. He is accompanied by his brother George. Miss Lizzie Collier, who has been visiting Miss Ida Gillingham, returned to her home in the east part of the county the first of the week. Those interested in the Ogle cemetery are requested to be there August 28. Business of importance will be transacted. Mrs. Pernie Lacey was in this city Saturday and left that evening for her home in Oklahoma. She had been on a visit to her mother in Ozark township. C. A. McCanse, C. R. Landrum, T. E. Shriver and J. M. McPherson are attending the Republican State convention at Excelsior Springs. W. S. Banner has sold his stock of groceries to E. E. Zentz, late of Mammoth Springs, Ark., who will continue the business at the same stand. David J. Skinner, father of Wm. B. and John M. Skinner, of this city, died at his home in Franklin county, Pennsylvania, Saturday morning. He had been sick a long time. Mrs. Caledonia Elliott will start in a few days to southwestern Texas with her niece, Miss Minnie Fullerton, who is very low with consumption. They go hoping to be benefitted by the climate. Demorest Gold Medal Contest to be held at Ozark C. P. Church at Union, Tuesday, August 21st, 8 p.m. Collection to be taken for the Temperance work. All invited. Committee. The Grand Jury adjourned Saturday. Eleven indictments were returned. The jurors report that they thoroughly investigated all cases brought before them, and yet it was the least expensive of any grand jury for years. Thomas Catts and Bud George arrived Saturday from Hempstead county, Ark. Mr. Catts came to look after a case in court and Mr. George will remain here until spring when he will return to the "land of cotton." Mr. Catts reports that himself and partner, George King, are well pleased with their new home and have good crops. Mr. B. B. Dyer died at his home in this city Monday morning, at 4 o'clock, of inflammation of the liver. His death was sudden and unexpected as he was able to be up Sunday morning. He was 42 years of age and leaves a wife and eight children. Funeral services were held at the C. P. Church, of which he was a member, and the interment took place in the city cemetery. Mr. Dyer was a good citizen. Mr. and Mrs. Harley entertained the young people of Mt. Vernon Thursday evening of last week in honor of Miss Autie McKennon, niece of Mr. Harley, of Clarksville, Ark., who has been visiting here for some time.
