Virginians in North Carolina

The 1718, 1720 and 1721 tax lists for Currituck County provide a particularly useful tidbit of information.  They told us who were Virginians.  This is particularly useful information for genealogists, as it tells us where to look.

The influx of Virginians to this part of North Carolina is evident on the early Currituck tax lists.  In 1718 one section of the tax list is references as "A List of Sum Virginia people and others yt. houlds land and has not paid for ye yr. 1718" and in 1720 a list that says "Owners living in Virginia" and a similar notation in 1721.  http://www.ncgenweb.us/currituck/tax/1718arrears.html and http://www.ncgenweb.us/currituck/tax/1720tax.html and http://www.ncgenweb.us/currituck/tax/1721tax.html
