Kelle, Edward  -- 1585-86 Military Colonist

Raleigh's First Colony, 1585-86 (referred to as a military colony due to lack of women and children being included) Raleigh sent a colony of 108 persons to Roanoke Island. The expedition, commanded by Raleigh's cousin, Sir Richard Grenville, sailed from Plymouth, England, on April 9, 1585, in seven ships, the largest of which was of 140 tons' burthen.

Kelley, Edward -- 1590 relief voyage

(rescue voyage/ return of Governor White to  the Colony)

Governor White sailed on March 20, 1590, for America, but without the accompanying planters and supplies. Indeed, his status was not much better than that of a passenger on one of Wattes' ships, who had limited court influence at home. After spending months in the Caribbean, they finally arrived in the area.  On the morning of the Aug. 16th, Governor White, Captain Cooke, Captain Spicer, and a small company set forth in two boats for Roanoke Island. They were looking for the colonists, they were not found.

Kelly, FNU -- added surname

Note: Members whose names are not included in the list, join the DNA project for various reasons. Some of those reasons are a family history of Native American ancestry, or genealogy dead ends in eastern NC, VA, SC, early 1600's. This information should be included in their genealogy file.

NOTE: To me this isn't an added surname just a variation of spelling...nlp
