5. 1589-1590 relief voyage, carrying supplies

John White, was  an artist- illustrator and it is believed he participated in #1. the 1584 reconnaissance voyage.

It is stated in some articles that he was a friend of Sir Walter Ralegh, this is unknown for sure. After the Recon voyage, his next venture  was the #2. First Colony of 1585-86 referred to as the military colony due to the fact there were no women or children included.

This venture failed due to the lack of supplies and the hostilities between the Native Americans and the English colonists. He returned to England, with the military colonists on one of Sir Drake's ships. #3. 1587 - He  became a member of the group of merchants who financed and or bought his way into the second colony. He was made Governor and had twelve assistants, his son in law being one of them. After the colonists arrived at Roanoke Island, It was decided that Governor White would return to England for supplies. He was unable to return immediately due to the war between England and Spain. #4. In 1588, he was allowed two small vessels to take supplies to Roanoke. This voyage ended with both ships limping back to England after encounters with a larger navel force. #5. 1589-1590 - The next chance of supplying the Ralegh Citie colonists did not occur until 1589 but the voyage didn't leave England until 1590.

The colonists were never found.
