Mary E Browning Departed this life October 16 1875 in Linn County Mo Buried at the Knifong graveyard

Sister Dryden was born in Buckingham county, Virginia, in the year 1820; came to Missouri when a girl lived a few years in Howard county, the remainder of her life being spent in Linn county. She was united in marriage to Dr. N. J. Dryden, a gentleman esteemed by all who knew him, having the confidence of the people as a physician and Christian friend. They were the first couple married in Linn county, and both were members of the M. E. Church, South. Sister Dryden professed religion when a small girl, but was more fully satisfied many years after her marriage, when she prayed for many days that she might have a brighter assurance of her acceptance. Her Christian character was fully exemplified in her daily walk and life. She had been an invalid for thirty years, bore her long sickness and confinement with remarkable solicitude given her on all occasions by her devoted children and friends so much so that it was a pleasure to wait upon her during her illness.
The last words this leved mother said: "Oh! so many!. Cannot count them. Let me rest."
Taken from the Brunswicker, Brunswick Missouri May 18, 1848
Lines on the death of Marshall, son of Dr. and Mrs. N. J. Dryden, killed last February by a log rolling over him.
The fairest flowers are oft the first that fade, Snapped from the stem, by some unfriendly blast And all their fragrance in the dust is lad, And all their short-lived beaut's quickly past.
Fair as the summer rose, without a thorn, Was little Marshall with his smiling face; Yet he was rudely from his parent's torn, By death, the fell destroyer of our race.
Sad was the hour, and fatal was the spot, Where his frail frame received the mortal blow And sad we mortals deemed his hapless lot, So early torn from all he loved below.
But hopes beyond the tomb shed cheering light O'er all the saddening scenes of sorrow here, Bid us look forward to that region bright, Above this world of sorrow, sin and fear.
For there with all the happy infant band, Who have so soon and safely crossed the flood Shall Marshall's little sainted spirits stand The Purchase of a dying Savior's blood.
Submission then should bid us cease to mourn, And hopes immortal our sad spirits fire. Although our loved ones can no more return, We may to heaven, their bright abode aspire.
