Surnames: OVERTON FOSTER DYKES
Submitter: Janice Tilman (htilman@aol.com)
Date: 09 Aug 2000

A couple weekends ago I visited Tennessee Cemetery in Mercer County to find the gravesites of Moses and Nancy Jane FOSTER OVERTON and their son Alexander. We found it after several passes and it really is a lovely place. I was concerned, however, to find the marker for Moses and Nancy lying on its side. The base had dropped in one corner and it looked as though the marker had just toppled off. Luckily it isn't broken and the engraving is very clear. Alexander's marker and his wife Lucinda's (DYKES) haven't faired quite as well. His had fallen forward and hers backward and broken. Again, however, they were very readable. I was wondering how one would get those stones reset. I've never dealt with anything like that. There were also other stones similar to these and a large limb had fallen across a section knocking over several. Does anyone know how to get this done or is anyone else interested? If you know whom I should contact or are interested let me know. Also,if any Overtons out there would like pictures of the markers, mine came out pretty well and I'd be glad to email them. Janice Tilman

Marriage application, license for Marvin/Henry NEWHAUSEN/NEUHAUSEN and Maude Ann CONWAY after 1921, possibly in May. I would like to prove my grandma and my step-grandfather were married and not just living together for nearly 40 years. He was the only grandpa I ever knew. They said they were married in MO, but couldn't remember where. They visited relatives in Lineville, IA so I think it could have been in Mercer Co. Thanks Pat
