Need help finding names of parents of Elizabeth LOGAN, born about 1808 in Kentucky. She married Robert H. Lewis about 1825, probably Knox or Laurel County, Kentucky, and appears on the Laurel County census through 1860 but does not appear later. Is she buried in a Knox County cemetery? How is she related to John Logan and Samuel G. Logan of Mercer County and John E. Logan of Decatur County, Iowa?

Is anyone researching a Samuel G. LOGAN family? S. Logan, 26, b. Kentucky, and his wife, M.A., 23, b. Ohio, are on the 1850 Mercer County, Missouri, census. On the 1860 census is S.G. Logan, 34, b. Kentucky, M.A., 30, b. Illinois, L.E., 9, M.F. 8, H.E., 3, (all female) and H.C, 2/12 (male). It is felt this family is the Samuel G. Her name was Martha Ann; she was born 1828 and died in 1863 and is buried in the Princeton, Missouri, cemetery. Where were he and the children by 1870? Would like to exchange Logan information.

Wish to correspond with descendants of the following children ane grandchildren of Peter HART (who died in 1843 in Mercer County, Missouri) and Hannah Poe Hart (who died in Warren County in 1872 and probably is buried in Linn Grove Cemetery):

Mathias Hart, born about 1805/1807 in Virginia, In 1830 he was in the Vermilion County, Illinois, census with a wife and two small daughters, In the 1840 census he was in Lafayette Township of Livingston County, Missouri. In 1850 he was in Harrison County, Missouri, with wife Margaret (perhaps his second wife) and children Malinda, Elizabeth, Calvin, George, Henry, Antonette, Claracy J., and John. In 1860 he was in the same county with the addition of Elisia, Mary and Alice born after 1850. Have found nothing after that time other than a letter from one daughter, written in 1869 from Grundy County, Missouri, to a cousin in Harrison County. Where did this family go?
James Hart, who was born about 1821 (North Carolina or Kentucky), and his wife Elizabeth Neeley, of Warren County, Iowa. They had children John who married Sarah Jane McClain, Peter, Eliza who married Albert Hughes, and Hannah Josephine who married Thomas Bedwell.
America Hart, who married Philo Munson on July 13, 1848, in Polk County, Iowa. James Munson, born about 1849, son of Philo and America, was living with his grandmother Hart and uncle, James Hart, and family in the 1860 census of Warren County. In 1870 Hannah Hart, James Hart's two youngest children, and James Munson were in the household of Fred Cerrewall in Warren County. In 1880 James Hart's widow and Hugh Munson, 8, (was this a son of James Munson?) were with her son, John, and his family. What happened to America Hart Munson, her husband, her son?
Polly Hart, who married George Nook, Neck, Naek in 1834 in Putnam County, Illinois.
Jenny Hart, who married James Barrett in Putnam County, Illinois, about 1834. Believe both couples were in Mercer County, Missouri, in 1840's with Peter and Hannah. What happened to them? Did they come to Warren County?
Nancy Caroline Hart, born about 1829/30 in Kentucky or Illinois, (granddaughter of Peter and Hannah), a daughter ol Elizabeth Hart and her husband, William Morgan Hart. Nancy Caroline, living with her grandmother, was married about 1850 in Polk County, Iowa, to Joseph Neeley. They were living in Fannin County, Texas, in 1876. It is believed she died in 1887. Nothing additional is known of her family.
John Morgan Hart, born about 1836 in Illinois, (grandson of Peter and Hannah), a son of Elizabeth Hart and her husband, William Morgan Hart. It is believed John Morgan left his home in Mercer County when a teenager and lived with relatives in Iowa, probably his grandmother, Hannah Hart in Warren County, and eventually "went West," probably to Montana.
Willard P. Hall Hart, born 1846 in Mercer County, Missouri (grandson of Peter and Hannah), a son of Rebecca Hart and her husband, William Morgan Hart (married after wife Elizabeth died). He was married in 1880 in Warren County, Iowa, to Mary Ann Waiters, daughter of John and Louisa/Eliza Hart Waiters who came to Warren County from Knox/Whitley Counties, Kentucky. Need information on Waiters family and Louisa/Eliza's Hart family.

They lived Ashe County, NC, in 1800, 1810, and 1820 census; Vermilion County, IL, in 1830; Putnam County, IL, 1832-1839. They went to what is now Mercer County, MO, in 1839; Peter died there in 1842. Hannah was in Polk County, IA, in 1850 and Warren County, IA, in 1860 and 1870 and died there in 1871/72. Children were William H., Mathias, John, Elizabeth, Polly, James, Henderson, Rebecca, Jenny, Eliza, America, and maybe Cyrus and Hugh. Was Hannah the daughter of William or Henry Poe of Ashe County? Was Matthias Poe of Ashe County her brother? Was she Indian?

I am seeking information about a SHIELDS family known to be in Bates county 1860-70. Job SHIELDS and wife and children were found on the 1860 census in Mt. Pleasant in Bates Co. By the 1870 census, Job's brother, Isham SHIELDS, was living there with wife, Nancy (Cooper-Loyd) SHIELDS, sons (Dio)Nishious, Edward, and Hosea, daughter Anna Isabella, who was probably born there, and his mother, Anna SHIELDS. This is the last place we have been able to find Job, Isham, or (mother) Anna. Isham's family was in Mercer Co. in 1880 without either Isham or Anna, so it's possible they died in Bates Co. If anyone could share any information about this family, any land they owned, or what happened to them, it would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to find out all the information that I can about my father's side of the family that lived in Trenton, Halfrock & Spickard Mo. My Great-grandfather was Andrew SMILEY. He was born in Indiana & relocated in Halfrock. He inlisted in the Mo 44th Inf in the Civil War & was killed in the battle of Franklin Tn near the end of the war. 1864. He left behind a widow & two sons. One son was also known as Andrew ( I do not know the other sons name) & he was my Grandfather. He was a blacksmith in Halfrock or one of the little communities close by. My father's name was Cecil W Smiley. He was born in Halfrock in 1900. He died in 1979. I know there is still family around Spickard, Trenton, Laredo.

My dad's mother's side of the family was Garrett. John Garrett [ed note: 'GARRIOTT'] was my Great-grandfather who also fought in the Civil War on the northern side but he returned home. He was a farmer & I believe he had 12 or 13 kids. He is buried in Halfrock. I believe the only thing left in Halfrock is the church & graveyard. The Garrett family reunion used to be held there. I only meet some of the family when I was very small.

My dad had three sisters-Ninnie, Ethel & Flo. Aunt Ethel & Aunt Flo stayed around those small towns the rest of their lives. They are also gone. I know they had children. Aunt Ethel married Frank Russell & I believe their son's name is Kenneth. Aunt Flo married Jess Warren. I believe they had a daughter named Mary or Mary Jane. I suppose I'm lucky to know as much as I do but I really would love to locate some of my cousins & find out more about the family back ground. I hope you can pass on some information to me or let someone know of my search. Thank you so very much. Cee

I am searching for information on my family. I need information on Robert Roy JOHNSON, born in Mercer County in the early 1900's. His father was James (L?) JOHNSON, also from Mercer County. I know that James was married to Nancy Ann (she went by Annie I believe) FRAKES, and her parents were Marion and Martha (OVERTON) FRAKES.

There is a family story saying that one of my ancestors (possibly Marion) was kidnapped by the Blackfoot Indian tribe and then married into the tribe. There is a possibility that this story was in reference to Marion's father or Martha OVERTON's father.

If anyone has any information regarding any of these people, please contact me at tiggrrr@juno.com

Thank you,

HIGGINS, James Jesse born June 23,1853 in either Ireland or Indiana. Was living in (Lineville, Mo) Mercer county and in (Lineville, Iowa)Wayne County as early as 1890. He married my great grandmother Mary Alice MARSHALL, either in Butler County Missouri or Lineville on October 10,1878. I have not been able to find much information on these two except for a 1900 Missouri Census, which lists all of their children as follows: Arthur, Lulu, Bert, Ira, Jenny, Everette, Earnest, Frank, William (My grandfather), not including my Uncle Claude who was not born yet. The story is that they had a hotel right on the state line, in Lineville MO/IA. I believe after some trouble, my great-grandfather moved to St. Joseph (around 1910) and my Great Grandmother moved with some of her children to Green City, Mo. Would appreciate any information on my Great grandparents, especially any news accounts of trouble in Lineville.

If anybody descends from these individuals, or from other co-migrators, I'd like to correspond with you. None of these Mercer Co., MO individuals are in my direct line, since my family stayed here in Butler Co., PA, but I do have a fair amount of information on the residents of northwestern Butler Co., PA during this period.

I am searching for a family by the name of DEAN who may have lived in Princeton, Mercer County, MO in 1895-1898. Nettie Belle KELSEY, born July 4, 1879 in Missouri married a MR. / DEAN, about 1895-1898. They had at least two boys. Nettie KELSEY was the daughter of James and Margaret CAMPBELL KELSEY who married on February 10, 1867 in Princeton, Mercer County, Missouri. Their other children, siblings of Nettie's were:

Mary Ellen,
James Albert,
William E.,
Michael,
Georgia Anna,
Frances,
Elmer,
Gertrude
Mr. DEAN removed himself and the sons and Nettie never saw these boys again. In 1901, Nettie remarried Ethel Kethcart SHARP, and their first born son Edward Elmer SHARP was born in Mulberry, Kansas, just across the line from Mindenmines, Missouri on March 7 or 9th, 1904. Two more children were born in Missouri, and then the family moved to Montrose Colorado about 1910. By 1913, the SHARP family had moved to Somerset, Gunnison County, Colorado, where the rest of the children were born, and there they lived and died. Two sisters of the children of Nettie and Ethel SHARP remain. They know little of their half brothers, the DEAN boys. I have information, i.e. children's lists and dates behind these generations, but I would like to locate these two little DEAN Boys. Any assistance toward locating information on any part of these families would be most appreciated.

Am searching for information about the family of George YOUNGMAN (b 1809 Mason Co. KY) and his second wife Polly A. BURTON (1822 IN - 1888 Princeton MO). George and Polly's daughter Sarah/Sallie A. (1850 IN - May 1885 Trenton Grundy Co. MO) was married in 1878/9 probably in Princton MO to Alexander HAZEN (b Oct 16 1852 Oil Creek Twp near Hydestown PA) who worked for the railroad. Sarah's obituary states "she leaves her husband, and child of four years old" - that child was Nora (1881 - Jan 1894 St. Joseph MO). Sarah is buried under her maiden name in the Princeton Cemetery, Nora is buried beside her, as well as Sarah's mother, Polly. Acording to the history, The Hazen Family in America, Sarah/Sallie had 2 children with Alexander HAZEN and that both children are buried with her. What happened to Polly's husband George YOUNGMAN ? Is he also buried in an unmarked grave in the Princeton Cemetery? Will share information:

I am looking for some help in Mercer County, Missouri.

My gggrandfather, Sullivan ROSS purchased some land back in 1875 and I would like to contact the current owners in the hopes of maybe acquiring the old homestead. The land was 80 acres in the East half of Section 25, Township 65, and Range 23.
I have traveled to a spot south of Ravanna to where I think the land is but none of the residents along the gravel road were home so that I could inquire where the property may have been. I did notice an old abandoned mailbox on the road with the name Widner on it. One of my ancestors, William H. Ross married Martha Widner. They had a daughter, Jennie who was born in 1854.
According to the 1877 Plat Map, the land was north of the Fletcher Brothers property and south of G. W. Perry's land. To the west was the J. N. Mattock land and to the east was his brother's, George H. Ross' parcel. You can get to this land by turning right on the first hard road past the Cemetery in Ravanna. Unfortunately, I did not know how far to go down, therefore, I was unable to find the property.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone in Mercer County, Missouri. I was told that a family in Putnam County has the property.

The courthouse fire in 1898 did not help matters in my research and also the destruction of tax lists by the county haven't helped. History should never be destroyed without trying to preserve it first. The genealogical society could have taken them off their hands and published this information for all other Mercer County researchers.

Any help would be appreciated.
