I recently took my 86 year old uncle through what I had found on his ancestry - (POLSTON, WILLIAMS, DUREE, OWENS etc) - back beyond Mercer County to North Carolina - and on and on. He was overwhelmed! But --- He said, "I still don't know where my father is buried!" CAN ANYONE THERE HELP!!
I seek information on William (Willie?) POLSTON -(b. 15 Oct 1872) and married Meda Alice WILLIAMS at Ilia, Mercer Cty on 16th Sept 1901. His parents were Marvel Polston and Elizabeth Duree. William and Meda moved from Mercer Cty to OK and then to MT - with their family of 8 children. They homesteaded in Stillwater County, MT - but something happened abt 1920 and William left his family (some say deserted)and returned to Mercer County. According to my uncle they heard from him once -- and he believes he remained in Mercer County. Can anyone provide me information concerning when he died and where he might be buried?
Many Thanks!!! M. Swan

John S. HOWARD was born in VA in 1809, married Rebecca PREWITT in Grundy Co. in 1843, was listed in Buchanan Co. census in 1850, and in Mercer Co. in 1860. In the 1850 census he has a son James 20, born in IA or IN and another John 14, born in MO. Since Rebecca was only 29, she could not have been their mother. Who was the first wife of John S.?

John S. was a millwright, and his son John (B.), also. John B. married Rebecca BARNES (born in KY). They had a daughter Alice, born 1859. He died in Jan, 1860, in Mercer Co, at the age of 22. In the 1860 Mercer Co census (taken in Jul), Rebecca & Alice are living with John S. and his wife. Rebecca Barnes Howard later married Benjamin Franklin BURNS in Mercer Co. I would appreciate any information anyone can provide on these families. I would like to know where both John B. and John S. are buried. And who was John S´s first wife? Also, who were the parents of John Baker HOWARD, father of John S.? He also lived in Mercer Co. Thanks for any help you can give.

Looking for info on Absalom/Abraham BARRETT/BARRITT. Absalom BARRITT, Jr. born in Jennings Co, IN, married Lyvy Ann SMOTHERS in Mercer Co, in 1847. His father was supposed to be Absalom, Sr, who is listed in the 1850 Mercer Co. census. But in 1860, and 1870, there is an Abraham listed, same age, same origin (PA), and same wife's name (Elizabeth) as Absalom. Abraham is also listed in 1820, 1830, and 1840 Indiana census. Are these two the same man, brothers, cousins, or ??? Absalom, Jr. went to AR at some point after the Civil War. Did his parents go with him or did they die in Mercer Co.? Would appreciate any help to straighten out this connection.
