Russell Frederick DeVenney Jr.
Russell serves as NSSAR Registrar General (2015 -2016) and is seeking a 2nd term as Registrar General for (2016 – 2017). He has served on a number of National Committees. He is currently or has served as the Vice Chairman of the NSSAR SAR DAR Liaison Committee, Veterans Committee, SAR C.A.R. Liaison Committee, the Congress Planning Committee, Eagle Scout Committee, President General’s Advisor Committee and others.
He is in his 3rd term as an Adjutant of the National Color Guard. Russell and his wife Laura were Co-Chairman of part of the 2013 SAR National Convention in Kansas City, Missouri. They were awarded the Silver and Bronze Samuel Adams Congress Medals for their efforts. Russell has served as the SAR Liaison to the Harry S. Truman, Veterans Hospital for nearly 10 years.
A Life Member of both the Missouri Society and the National Society and is a George Washington Fellow. He is a contributor to the Eagle Scout Fund (Silver Palm level) and the Rumbaugh Orations Contest (Patriot Level). Russell and Laura are notable contributors to the Center for Advancing America’s Heritage, to the 1776 Campaign (Gold Palm Level) and are members of the Founders Circle.
Russell has been recognized at the National level twice with the Meritorious Service Medal and as Aid to Camp and as Color Guard Commander for the 2010 SAR Trip to Spain and Gibraltar by President General Edward Butler. Russell received from consecution President Generals Dooley and Brock the Silver and Gold Roger Sherman Medals. He has received the Liberty Medal with 3 Bronze Oak Leafs, the Service to Veterans Medal and the Silver Council of State Presidents Medal. Russell also has be awarded the Bronze and Silver Color Guard Medals and the National Gold Von Steuben Color Guard Medal.
Russell served as the Missouri Society State President and Alternate Trustee from 2008 – 2009 and the Missouri Society National Trustee from 2009 – 2010. He very proud of the following recognitions from the Missouri Society: Patriot Medal, State Medal of Distinguished Service, Meritorious Service Medal and the C.A.R.-SAR Silver Medal of Appreciation. Russell maintains dual memberships with the Maryland Society, Ohio Society, the West Virginia Society and the Texas Society.
He is the past President of the M. Graham Clark Chapter (2006 – 2007) and has held number of other Officer and Committee positions in the Chapter since becoming a member in 2002. In 2006 he was recognized with the MGC Sons of Liberty plaque for Outstanding Service to the Chapter.
Russell is married to Laura who serves as National SAR DAR 2nd Vice President. Laura is an important partner to Russell’s SAR membership and is active in the Missouri C.A.R. They have 15 grandchildren who are members of the Missouri Society of the Children of the American Revolution. Their Granddaughter Anna was the Missouri C.A.R. State President in 2014.
Russell is a member of a number of other Fraternal and Linage Organizations such as the Masons, the International Order of the Odd Fellows, the Knights of Pythias, and Sons of Union Veterans. Russell was Organizing President of the Society of the War of 1812 in the State of Missouri from 2008 – 2013 and currently serves as the State Treasurer. In 2013 Russell was sworn-in as the Treasurer General of the General Society of the War of 1812.
