John David Winn Grave Marking

The M. Graham Clark Chapter of the SAR conducted a grave marking ceremony for Patriot John David Winn on 4 JULY 2015. Patriot Winn's descendents Barbara Parks McKenzie of Salisbury, George Wynne of Texas were planners of the ceremony along with members of the M. Graham Clark Chapter.

The ceremony took place at the Winn Family Cemetery located in a field just cross the road from the Henke residence at 37724 Switzer Mill Road, Salisbury, MO.

The stone marks the grave of John David Winn and his wife, Eleanor (Hicks) Winn. Other graves in the small cemetery include that of their son, who is a War of 1812 veteran.

The ceremony was presided over by the M. Graham Clark Past-President, J. Y. Miller, who delivered a keynote speech. It included greetings from MGC President Jack Chance, remarks from National Registrar General Russell F. DeVenney JR, color presentation by the MOSSAR Color Guard, a musket salute, singing of the National Anthem, and prayer.

Following the ceremony, a lunch was served at the Salisbury VFW Hall and tours were offered at the Chariton County Museum in Salisbury.
