Miller County Historical Society

P.O. Box 57
Tuscumbia, MO 65082

The Miller County Historical Society Museum in Tuscumbia can be found in the old Anchor Mill building, located on West Hwy. 52. The building and museum serve as a monument for the proud culture of the Miller County people. As a folk life museum, it provides an authentic vision of the central Missouri society, its Indian heritage, early home accessories, machines, crafts, schools, churches and agriculture that were unique to Miller County History. The museum is now the home of two authentic log houses, both removed from their original setting in Glaize township and reassembled on the museum grounds. One of the houses was built by John Williams in the late 1850s for a slave woman and her child. The Lupardus log home was built by Peter Burton Lupardus in the 1880s for his family.

In the same spirit of hospitality that the Osage Indians offered to the early pioneers of Miller County, the Historical Society welcomes you to tour their facilities. The museum is open mid-May through mid-September, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may write to the museum at P.O. Box 57, Tuscumbia, MO, 65082. Special tours can be arranged in advance. Free admission, donations appreciated.

The Historical Society has a library/research toom which houses Miller County family histories, census, marriage and cemetery records. Everything is done by mail - they have no computers, so please write your requests.
