Of Slavery The ball
of a ball and chain that used to be attached to slaves’ ankles is
owned by Walter Quinn, who found the ball in a box of tools and odds
‘n ends that he purchased at an auction in Monroe County. The bail
is 12 inches in diameter weighing 7
3/4 pounds. It is of a
type used on a short chain attached to a slave’s ankle. The chain was too short for the man to pick the ball up and walk with it. He dragged the ball behind him as he walked. |
