REVOLUTIONARY SOLDIER JOSEPH CULTON

Joseph Culton was born in 1766 at Augusta County, Virginia, the son of James Culton. He enlisted into the Revolutionary Army while living at Montgomery County, Virginia and served as a soldier in the Virginia line.
He continued to live in Montgomery County, Virginia for several years after the war. Then he moved to South Carolina where he lived for about 10 years. Next he lived at Gerrard and Knox Counties in Kentucky. In 1811 he moved to Floyd County, Indiana, and in 1821 he moved to Morgan County, Indiana where he applied for a pension on May 14, 1834.
At the time he applied for his pension, he had at least one sister (not named) who married Randaulph Gibson. The Gibsons were residents of Tennessee and lived on the Tennessee River in 1834.
In June 1842 Joseph moved with his son James to Jasper County, Missouri. His son, James, used Cullen as the spelling of his name. Joseph Culton died in Jasper County, Missouri and was buried there. His exact burial site is unknown.
