I do not know how long they lived in Oregon county and by the time of the 1880 census, they were living in Boone Co, AR, and with them was nephew Lee USRIE (b.abt 1862 in MO). I believe Joseph was a Methodist preacher. John Morrison Wichita, KS

ARMSTRONG, BAKER, BATES, BRINSON, DETHRAGE, DETHROW, FREY, HAYES, MORGAN, NORMAN, POMEROY, WOLF, WOLFE posted by Jeannie Montgomery on Saturday, March 7, 1998

I am researching Francis "Hulda" (ARMSTRONG) WOLFE b. April 1855 - ALA. Date and place of death unknown, however she is buried at New Salem Cemetery, Oregon Co., MO. Do not know her father's name but believe her mother to be Lyda ARMSTRONG, shown living next to Hulda and husband Mr. HAYS on the 1880 Census in Oak Grove Twp. Lyda is listed as 70 y.o. with 18 y.o. son Isaac / b.(1862) - ALA. Hulda and Isaac's ("Ike") father is shown on this census as being born in TN. Believe George ARMSTRONG b.(1859) - ALA. to also be a son of Lyda's. He and wife Parlee are shown on 1880 census with 7-mo.-old son John S. ARMSTRONG living near Lyda's household. Since Hulda outlived six (6) husbands after coming to Oregon Co., MO, I will list them as follows: (m #1) ELLIOTT (no children) // (m #2) William E. (Ed) HAYSE/ HAYS/ HAYES m. 1876-Oregon Co., MO -- 4 ch.from this marriage: (2a) John Frances ("Frank") HAYS/ HAYES / b.1877-79 (ARK), d.(1914) Oregon Co., MO, buried New Salem Cemetery, Couch, MO -- 3 Oregon Co. marriages: POMEROY, Rosetta BATES, Mrs. Mamie MORGAN; (2b) Anna L. NORMAN (Mrs. Perry) b.1884 (pl.unkn), d.1964, buried Cave Springs Cemetery, Piney Twp., Oregon Co., MO; (2c) Andrew HAYS / HAYES d. as small child; (2d) Eva HAYS / HAYES d. as small child; (m#3) Simeon H. WOLF / WOOLF m.1890-Oregon Co., MO -- 2 ch. from this marriage: (3a) Modena ("Denie") A. BAKER (Mrs. Joseph) b.Oct.1890-MO, d.1976, buried Cave Springs Cemetery; (3b) Wesley WOLF b. Aug.1892-MO, d.?; (m#4) David M. DETHROW m.1899-Oregon Co., MO; (m#5) DETHRAGE; (m#6) WOLFE. Hulda is last shown in MO in the 1900 census as DEATHROW, living in Oak Grove Twp, then disappears. Did she leave MO after her last marriage (WOLFE) and go to OK or MS? Where did she live when she died? When did she die? What was the name of her last husband? Her grave site was marked with a field stone until 1977 when a new stone was purchased by Mrs. D. S. BRINSON in c/o the address of Mrs. Price FREY. If you are a descendant of ANY of the above-mentioned, OR if you have information on Hulda (ARMSTRONG) WOLFE, I would appreciate hearing from you. We are grandchildren of Linnie (HAYES) STANDLEY and are trying to get dates to put on her paternal grandmother's monument. Thank you.

RICE posted by Ken on Tuesday, April 28, 1998

My great grandfather, John Alexander Rice, one of the first residents of Alton Missouri, he moved there in 1856. He first moved to Grundy County in 1849 with his parents. He fought on the Union side in the Civil War in the 2nd Missouri Cavalry, was a state representative, a judge, a deputy Marshall and a Captain in the Army. I've written to the Alton Chamber of commerce for information but they say they never heard of him, even though he was the head of the local Masonic Lodge for 26 years. I have an old Tin Type of him and his wife in his Uniform but it isn't very good. I understand that in Alton there is suppose to be a portrait of him in either the court house or the Masonic Lodge but I haven't been able to find any help on how to get a picture of it. Any help or information on how to aquire records or information about him would be helpful and any of the information I can dig out of the records I do have I would be happy to share.
