He married Mary Mahoney, born Sioux City, Iowa, no birth date, died 1883 in Hull, Iowa at birth of daughter Helen. Other children of theirs: Mary and Charles, both considerably older than Helen. JAME'S parents were J. HEZEKIA SMITH and SABINA ANGELINE CRIDER. JAMES had siblings AMOS SMITH-JOE SMITH-DAVE SMITH-LEONA who married a HUFF-and ETTA who married a BAKER. MARY'S parents were DEWITT IRVIN and LUCINTHA ELLIS. She had siblings WILBUR SMITH-LUTHER SMITH-LIZABETH who married a BELL-IDA who married a HUFF-ALICE who married a WHITESIDE-MAE who married a MERRELL-and ETHEL who married a HERFOLD.
