AUSTIN, BROWN, HUDSON, VOSSLER, WHEELER posted by Lonna Jean Conroy on Thursday, May 20, 1999

Seeking information about William T. BROWN (b 1818 KY) and his wife Lear ? (born 1822 KY). A son James (b 1846 KY) married somewhere in Tennessee and had three children: John W. (b 1872 TN), Mary (b 1875 TN) and Sara (b 1877 TN). His wife is unknown but was from Alabama and was apparently dead by 1880. Daughter Misinair BROWN was born 1848 probably in TN; son D.M. BROWN was born in 1861 in TN; daughter Corna BROWN was born 1866 in TN. The family apparently moved to Oregon County, Missouri about 1877 because the family is listed in the Oregon County Census of 1880. Also William T. BROWN proved a homestead at Couch, Oregon Cty, MO in 1890. Misinair BROWN married John William Wheeler probably in Oregon County about 1878. John William WHEELER ran a store in Garfield from 1880-1884. John W. and Misinair took in a young boy, Josiah Wilford AUSTIN, as a foster son. Josiah died in 1897 and is buried in the Couch Cemetery (New Salem) along with his son Amory Earl AUSTIN and daughter-in-law Alma VOSSLER. A daughter, Rachel Alice WHEELER was born to John W. WHEELER and Misinair BROWN in October 1884 at Couch. By the late 1880's John W. Wheeler was running a blacksmith business in Many Springs, Oregon Cty, MO. He became a partner in a store in Many Springs with son-in-law Samuel Pleasant HUDSON in 1900. By 1902 John W. and Misinair BROWN WHEELER and daughter and son-in-law, Samuel Pleasant and Rachel A. WHEELER HUDSON and a grandson, John W. HUDSON moved to Idabel, Indian Territory, OK. In 1914 the families moved from Oklahoma to Idaho. Information about BROWN, AUSTIN and VOSSLER would be appreciated. Was recently in Oregon County but could not find a headstone for BROWN in the New Salem Cemetery located about 1/2 mile from the BROWN homestead. Any leads appreciated. Thanks! Mrs. Lonna Jean Conroy McCammon, Idaho
