I am looking for any information on my great grandmother Josephine Frances HAND (aka Frances J. English). She was born Abt. 1872 possibly in Memphis, TN. and died October 13, 1918 in Omaha, Douglas Co., NE. The information that I have on marriages is as follows....(1) William ENGLISH bef. 1891 possibly in KY. They had 4 children, one of which died young. (2) John Thomas WARREN May 14, 1902 in Haxton, Phillips Co., CO. They had one daughter, my grandmother. There are 2 stories about Josephine, one says that her mother was Cherokee Indian and father was German or Jewish. The other story says that Josephine's mother was daughter to Henry Ford I, and that she ran away from home and married a Jewish man named HAND. In either case, Josephine's parents were said to have been killed for intermarriage, possibly by the Ku Klux Klan. This left Josephine, one sister and one brother to be raised by another family, possibly a black family. Josephine was found in the 1900 Federal Census for Thayer Twp., Oregon Co., MO. She was listed as Frances J. English was a servant in the home of George M. Allen. One daughter, Ethel M. English was living with her at the time. Another daughter, Hattie P. English, age 8 born May 1892 in MO was living in Piney Township with her grandfather, James Parker, age 64 born Jul 1835 in TN and his one dtr Verbena A. and three sons Henry C., William W. and John R. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you, Heidi Hafner

I'm told I might find my SMITHs in Howell and Oregon Counties, MO. My great-grandmother Samantha Victoria SMITH b. 1868 TN married three times in Randolph Co, AR. In 1885 she received a letter from her mother, E.A. Smith in Ripley Co., MO. It mentioned her brother Lewis, who apparently was also in that area at that time. They both later moved to TX and then she on to OK. One possible family of her is a Semion and Elizabeth Smith. Semion is apparently the son of Wylie and Mary Smith. Wylie is said to be the son of Annie Stringfellow Smith. I find these families in TN from 1850-1880. After that I have lost track of them execept for the one letter to Samantha and what happened to her. I did find one other possible reference to her mother. An obit for 1886 in Doniphan - Mrs. Eliza Smith, working as housekeeper to a D.A. Lee. If you recognize any of these Smiths or would be interested in sharing info, I can send you the census records for them. This is a very difficult line, as you well know, any information about your Smiths would be appreciated.

My gr gr grandparents were Solomon "Saul" Mayberry/Maberry/Mabry/Mabury b. 1800 TN. His 1st spouses name is unknown to me. His 2nd spouse was Deborah Ann (Gravett). They married 1843 in St. Francois Co., MO., and lived in Reynolds Co., MO. Solomon died 1855-1858. Deborah "Deby" married Dec. 3, 1858 in Oregon Co., MO. to B. or B. F. Faulkenberry/Faulkenbury/Faulkenburg. Deborah & children are found in the 1860 Oregon Co., MO. census, but Mr. Faulkenberry/Faulkenbury/Faulkenburg is missing from the household. I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone that has any information for this 2nd spouse of Deborah's. Also, would greatly appreciate locating a death date and place of burial for Deborah. Thank you for any help and any Oregon Co., MO. Mayberry information. Gloria (Birlew) Hursey Ghursey2@aol.com

The family I am researching is that of Robert Alpheus KING. GrGrandad Bob was a Cumberland Presbyterian minister, circuit rider, and farmer. His children were mostly born in Arkansas but his youngest was born there in Oregon Cy. Bob migrated to Oregon Cy in 1800 and left for Foss, Oklahoma in 1901. He was pastor of Little Springs church for 21 years. That is what I know. What I want to know is: Where was the Little Springs church? Where was his farm? Where in Alton would I find the records? If I come in person what could I find? What I can share: I have his autobiography which deals mainly with his ministry and touches on Oregon Cy in about five paragraphs. I would be glad to pass this on to anyone in the county who might be interested and could share it.
