AHRENS, HOFEN posted by Helen Morris on Friday, July 6, 2001

Ahrens family lore says that August Ahrens died in the autumn of 1931 in Mammoth Springs, FULTON, AR or in Thayer, OREGON, MO. A search of the two states archives for a death certificate should tell you where he is buried, Barbara Hofen Ahrens would likely be nearby. Family history from Wm Ahrens Jr family has been very reliable per my research.

ATCHISON, JOHNSON, SIFFORD, WHITTEN posted by Kathleen Lynch on Monday, August 20, 2001

I am a relative of many people buried in HICKORY GROVE CEMETARY, Oregon County, MO. Both of my grandparents, great aunt and uncle are natives of ALTON, MO. I inherited a "friendship quilt" containing various names of friends and neighbors of SIFFORDS in OREGON COUNTY, MO. It is my goal to be able to place the names on the quilt and make the stories behind it come alive. However, many of those included are nicknames or do not include surnames. This item was very important to my grandmother, AGNES CLARA SIFFORD-ATCHISON who married and moved to JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI.My grandfather's name was JACK LEWIS ATCHISON, also from OREGON COUNTY. Other names included in my quest include GARLAND and GLADYS JOHNSON of Alton, MO and also my great-grandmother, MARY JANE SIFFORD-WHITTEN. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated, as I am planning a trip to Oregon County sometime in the near future, and want to make the most out of my visit there to the cemetaries. In turn,! if you would like information about these families, perhaps I may be of assistance to you as well, since my grandparents were very friendly people, who enjoyed relating stories about their childhood days to an eager grandchild who admired them very much. Thank You...August 20, 2001 Kathleen Lynch
