Parking for Horses

Effective immediately, a parking alternative is available at the Ben Ferrel Museum. Visitors arriving by horse drawn carriage or horseback will find two hitching posts at curbside in front of the museum.

The native limestone posts, weighing over 300 pounds each, were donated in the Summer 2010 to the museum by long-time PCHS members, John and Louise Jackson of Platte City. The posts, dating back to circa 1910, originally stood in front of the Chestnut Family home at 1001 Fourth Street. The Jackson's later acquired the property and saved the posts from being lost when the street was widened.
