Mr. & Mrs. Courtney -- Dear Cousins:

Deepest sympathies with you in your recent bereavement. It seems but yesterday that I saw little Carrie, although months have passed; yet, I cannot forget her bright smile and winning ways.

Doting parents, the loss of your darling is irreparable but "God's will, not thine be done." Living brothers she is "not lost, but gone before." Gentle sister, the chilly blast has borne away that bud so dear, yet it will bloom in brighter realms. Father, mother, brothers, and sister, mourn not, for God has said "of such is the Kingdom of Heaven."

(*At this point is a long poem dedicated to Carrie, which I am not transcribing.)

Affectionately, Alma M. Drake

(*According to 1870 census, Carrie at that time was 5, and the daughter of Peter and Mary Courtney, Dresden, Mo.)
