At long last the Polk County History book is
finished and has arrived at the Polk County
Genealogical Society Library in Bolivar, MO. A
big thank-you to everyone for your patience in
this undertaking. Bunny Jones, chairman of the
project says, "We started this book project
in March of 2002 knowing that it would be a two
to five year project, hoping that it would be
closer to the two-year mark. We feel that we are
pretty well on target." Jones says that the
process of creating a book of this magnitude was
a very time-consuming chore. Jones says that
until she had purchased these books from other
counties and started the monumental task of
helping produce this one, even she did not
realize what all was involved. There were
over 700 family histories written by Polk
Countians and their families. There is also a
section of county history that will walk us
through the years of Polk County since its
inception in 1835. It is the first book of its
kind for Polk County in 114 years and is well
worth the wait.

tributes.
The publication is unique as it is written by
Polk County people.

D. with approximately 200 to 300 pages. This
hardback, library quality, smyth-sewn 8 1/2 by 11
inch book is beautifully bound in antique green,
swirl-grained leatherette cover with a gold
foil-stamped seal depicting Polk County's
historic Public Library (now the home of the Polk
County Genealogical Society) on the front cover
and gold on the spine. The book was printed by
Turner Publishing Company.
