January The minutes of the December meeting were approved as read. The treasurers report showed the following balances: Regular Checking $ 3754.32 Supplemental $12,484.66 Petty Cash $ 152.34 Total $16.391.32 The financial report is attached. Membership is 227 as of Dec. 31, 2010. Installation on the awning over the back door is scheduled to begin tomorrow, Jan. 7, weather permitting. The Executive Board is looking at publishing another family history book. Plans are to meet later in the month with a publisher from Rich Hill, MO. The program for the evening was a share time with everyone present given an opportunity to share a memento or story. Meeting adjourned. Leta Gass PCGS Secretary February March Minutes of the January meeting were approved as read. There was no meeting in February due to the blizzard! The treasurers report was read by Leta in absence of Treasurer Julie Trout. There is a total of $16,823.41 in the three accounts. The last quarterly report of the endowment shows $52,965.78. The Capacity Building Fund contains $11,137.334. Membership as of March 1 is 239 with 55 of those still needing to pay 2011 dues. A copy of the complete report is attached. We will be meeting with Walsworth Publishing Company on March 10 to discuss the publishing of another family history book. We met with Bell Publishing in January. The 1960 aerial maps have been digitized with hyperlinks and are on the three computers. We also have it on CD. Thanks to Mike Jones for his work on this source. Rex Brown is transcribing and indexing the 1835-1848 Stray Records. Our speaker for the evening was Doug Porter who talked about the Lone Rock Petroglyph located near Roscoe in St. Clair County. This site was found four years ago and has been dated as early as 540 AD. He had many slides to show and explained the meanings of the different markings including one about the 1054 Super Nova. The regular meeting of the Polk County Genealogical Society was held Thursday, April 7, 2011, at the PCGS Research Facility on the square in Bolivar. President Susan Sparks called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm. Everyone introduced themselves. There were 31 members and 4 guests present. A list of those attending is attached to these minutes. The minutes of the March meeting were approved as read. The treasurers report showed the following balances as of March 31. Regular Checking $3057.23 Supplemental Checking $12,483.28 Petty Cash $89.37 For a total of $15,629.88 Membership is 190 as of April 1 with 52 dropped from the list for non payment of dues. A copy of this report is attached to these minutes. The flyers about the new history book are now here. Everyone was encouraged to take several and pass them out and/or leave them in establishments throughout the area. The presale price of the book is $49. The book will include three sections: families, military and century farms. It is hoped to be able to do an every name index. We were asked to bring in historical pictures of Polk County that have not been published in other books to be used in an historical photo section. There will be a class offered on writing a family story for those who feel they need help. Deadline for all material is November 1. Field and Stream Magazine will be in Bolivar tomorrow to do a web cast. They are looking for hunting photos in Polk County. We were reminded to plan on being here for the annual membership picture to be taken in September because that picture will be in the new book. Our speaker for the evening was member William Walker who gave a very informative talk on area veterans of the Mexican War. He brought along several resources for us to look at after he spoke. The regular meeting of the Polk County Genealogical Society was held Thursday, May 5, 2011, at the PCGS Research Facility on the square in Bolivar. President Susan Sparks called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm. Everyone introduced themselves. There were 25 members and 5 guests present. A list of those attending is attached to these minutes. Minutes of the April meeting were approved as read. Treasurers Report was as followsas of April 30, 2011 Regular Checking $3,064.80 Supplemental Checking $12,482.82 Petty Cash $154.09 Total in the three accounts $15,701.71 Membership is at 204 as of May 1. Susan asked for members help with the history book. Volunteers are needed to go to the nursing homes and interview veterans for the military section of the book. The June 11 class on writing your family story for the history book needs to be rescheduled and will be held either June 4 or June 11. The speaker for the evening was Dan "Tiny" Cross who presented a program entitled "Stories from Down Under". He shared a slide presentation about a collection of coin art that was in the possession of Edsel and Bonnie Stewart. Meeting adjourned. Leta Gass PCGS Secretary
June Minutes of the May meeting were approved as read. The treasurers report as of May 23 was as follows: Regular Checking--$4339.67 Supplemental Checking--$12,482.82 Petty Cash--$75.09 Total of $16,897.58 for the three accounts. However, $892.00 belongs to the History Book II project, so we really only have $16,005.58 in the three accounts. Membership is 211 as of May 23. A copy of this report is attached to these minutes. Our speaker for the evening was Ezell Goodwin who spoke of his experiences as a cheese maker/cheese shop owner. He passed out a recipe for making cottage cheese and a page from a website on cheese making supplies. Both of these pages are attached to these minutes. Our next meeting will be a member share time to be held Thursday, July 7. Leta Gass Secretary, PCGS July The minutes of the June meeting were approved as read. The treasurers report was as follows: Petty Cash--$158.82 Supplemental Checking--$13,374.08 Regular Checking--$4,035.94 Total in all three accounts--$17,568.84. August Minutes of the July meeting were approved as read. The treasurers report was as follows: As of July 31 Regular Checking $3481.13 Supplemental Checking $13,373.79 Petty Cash $92.15 for a total of $16,947.07 for the three accounts. Of this amount, $1707.07 is designated as History Book II money, so the adjusted total is $15,239.57 for the three accounts. As of June 30, 2011, the Endowment Fund is at $54,666.70 Capacity Building Fund is $11,199.00 Membership is 220 as of August 1. A copy of the treasurers report is attached to these minutes. Members were reminded that it was time for our yearly group picture which will be taken at the September meeting. Members were asked to be here by 6:45 to be in the picture. Our speaker for the evening was Christine Thiessen who shared her familys experiences during their stay in Iran and their escape during the takeover by Khomeini in 1980. Meeting adjourned. The treasurers report was as follows: As of August 31, 2011 Regular Checking $2838.59 Supplemental Checking $14,189.29 Petty Cash $180.52 Total of $17,208.40 for the three accounts. However, $2112.50 belongs to the History Book II project, so we really only have $15,095.90 in the three accounts. Membership is 223 as of August 31. A copy of the treasurers report is attached to these minutes. Susan went over some of the items from the executive meeting including the discussion of possibly raising dues. The position of vice president is open. Please talk with Ray or Bob about filling that position. We will have our booth on the square during the Bolivar Picnic. Help will be needed both inside and out that day. The program for the evening was presented by Leta Gass who gave a history of the Ozark Empire Fair which celebrated its 75th birthday this year.
