Information
Requests
The Polk County
Genealogical Society gets numerous requests for
lookups. This service is done by volunteers
who work in the library on a part-time basis.
Please be patient as response to your
request may be slow. We will do our best to
answer your query in a timely manner.
Lookups can be made from various records such as
cemetery records, marriage records, newspapers,
etc. These records will be cover Polk County and
some neighboring counties. You may also request a
copy of an obituary listed in our index.
(Obituary copies are $5 each). We do ask for a payment of $5
for each search location.
Email
us with your request before
sending payment and
we will let you know if we can help you with your
search. Once we start the
search, this $5 payment is non-refundable. That
is why it is important to contact us via email before sending payment because
there are certain types of requests that we
cannot help with. Please contact the research
department for more information on the other fees
involved such as copying and postage.
EXAMPLES OF TYPES OF REQUESTS WE CAN HELP YOU
WITH:
- Obit request for specific date
- marriage record for specific
couple with approximate time frame
(married between 1880-1885)
- cemetery listing for specific
individuals
- copies of land records for
specific individual and date (ex.
"John Smith bought land on March 16,
1845 and sold the land on April 1, 1865.
This information came from an index. I
would like a copy of the actual record
please")
EXAMPLES OF TYPES OF REQUESTS WE CANNOT HELP
YOU WITH:
- "Any information available
on the Jones family."
- All of the marriage records for
people named Smith from 1835 to 1935.
- Any land records for John Jones
during the 1800s.
- "John Quincy Jones died
between 1850-1900 in Polk County. Can you
look for his obituary?"
If your specific request is not
mentioned above, email us and we will let you
know if we can help you. Since our library is
operated by volunteers, we simply do not have the
time or resources to do an all-encompassing
search for your family tree. However, if you have
the time to come and visit us here in Bolivar, we
will HELP you do it yourself!
For more information on these lookup services or
the other services available through PCGS, please
contact us at info@pcgsmo.com
or at P. O. Box 632, Bolivar, MO 65613. Remember
to please be specific with your request, giving
the full name of the person you are looking for,
with any relevant dates and Polk County place
locations.
Rena Smith is the head of
the research department in 2010.
