It will be re-opening in the summer of 2006, so bear with me and let me know what I can do to help in your research in the interim. I'll always do my best to help you out. - Scott

Formation and Demographics

Ralls County was formed, 1821 from Pike County and was named after Daniel Ralls, Missouri legislator.
Ralls is bounded by Pike, Audrain, Monroe, & Marion Counties, and the Mississippi River. Ralls is very much a rural county, the 1990 Census showing a population of 8,476. The county seat is New London, Missouri. The town of Hannibal straddles Ralls County & Marion County; location of the Mark Twain Memorial Bridge, and the boyhood home of "Mark Twain". A little further north, and then east across the Mississippi River, and you will be in Quincy, Illinois, the largest metropolis of the area.

Frontier Families of Missouri from the Upper Louisiana Territory

This database is based upon the PIONEER FAMILIES OF MISSOURI, by Bryan and Rose.  It consists of early tax lists, Spanish land grants, census records, military records, and extractions from the HISTORY OF MISSOURI by Louis Houck.  This is an on-going project with periodic updates.  There are over 20,000 linked families as of July 1999.  Coordination of data entry was done by the HANCOCK FAMILY ORGANIZATION, descendants of William Hancock who settled in St. Charles County in 1797.

Join the subscribers on MORALLS, the Ralls Co. Genealogy Mailing List.
Let's get together and discuss our Ralls County ancestors and share items of interest.

To SUBSCRIBE, send an e-mail message to MORALLS-L-Request@rootsweb.com (mail mode) or
MORALLS-D-Request@rootsweb.com (digest mode). The word "subscribe" (without the quotation marks) should be the only text in the body -- leave the "Subject" line blank. (Also, if you use a signature line, please turn it off.) You'll get a nearly-instant reply containing simple directions on how to unsubscribe, resubscribe, etc.

To POST your own message, send an e-mail to MORALLS-L@rootsweb.com. That's all there is to it; it's a wholly-automated process. The mail mode version will send you each post individually, whereas the digest version will save up a few and them send them together in one message, a real advantage to those who think they get too much mail already.

About the USGenWeb Project

In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. This grew into a project for the entire United States, and subsequently for the World. Missouri joined the project in July of 1996, and is now over two years old. Volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the county web pages. Even though today most (certainly not all) counties are covered, ongoing projects such as the Census Transcription Project and the Tombstone Project continue to need volunteers; counties continue to need volunteers for lookups, and the Archives continue to need donated data and transcribers.

If you would like to volunteer to assist the USGenWeb Project,
