The mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation® is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation® Kids for Wish Kids* program gives organizations like the M.S.S.C.A.R. the opportunity to sponsor wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses. Kids For Wish Kids is an extremely popular program for kids because it is managed by kids! We are responsible for coming up with the ideas and carrying them out!

A wish can provide a magical and empowering interlude in a terrible and frightening time. Children are energized by a wish–by imagining it, describing it, planning, and anticipating it. A wish can encourage a child to see a future to fight for, and then to fight on, often against tremendous odds, when courage and hope are flagging. By working together we have the power to help make the magic happen...

Seventeen year old Brittany, our wish child, wishes to go to Chicago with her mother and her best friend. Brittany suffers from Freidrich’s Ataxia.   Friedreich's Ataxia is an inherited disease that causes progressive damage to the nervous system resulting in symptoms ranging from gait disturbance and speech problems to heart disease. "Ataxia," which refers to coordination problems such as clumsy or awkward movements and unsteadiness, occurs in many different diseases and conditions. The ataxia of Friedreich's ataxia results from the degeneration of nerve tissue in the spinal cord and of nerves that control muscle movement in the arms and legs.  Friedreich's ataxia, although rare, is the most prevalent inherited ataxia, affecting about 1 in every 50,000 people in the United States. Our donation will help grant Brittany’s trip to Chicago. Together, we will make a magical experience happen, and we will give the gift of happiness to a child and family, who may need it the most.

M.S.S.C.A.R. contributed funds to Make-A-Wish Foundation to help Brittany's wish come true. Liadan raised $5,354 for her State President's Project. She presented her first $1000 donation to Make-A-Wish in August 2007, raised $616 during the Walk-for -Wishes in February 2008, presented the final check in June 2008 and the rest went towards M.S.S.C.A.R. scholarships! Liadan also was recognized with a Gold Award - State Presidents Guidelines Winner by N.S.C.A.R. Great job Liadan!!
