St. Charles County Genealogical Society St. Charles, Missouri |
In our early years we were hunting for a permanent meeting place and a home for our society's ever-growing collection of books, periodicals and research aids. Books and supplies were being housed in members' basements and transported to meetings. This became an impossible situation.
As a desperate measure, one of our members volunteered her basement as a temporary library. We wanted to make our holdings accessible to our members and the public, so the library was open one day a week. This became our first research library. Acquisitions increased the volume of books and a publications department was added to our society. There was a great need in St. Charles County to make available to the researcher and historian transcripts of original records. We now have over 250 publications.
As you can imagine, we soon outgrew the space provided by this library! Several years of searching for a permanent home and the diligent work of one of our members provided a much needed library in the Historic Court House in downtown St. Charles. Now we have moved again to the lower level of the " Red Rose Salon" previously the "Cookie Classics" and "Tax Express" at 1022 First Capitol Drive in St. Charles.
