The Stoddard County Genealogy Society was organized in 1979 by a small group of dedicated genealogists whose intent was to establish a non-profit, educational organization to aid people in the search for their family history.

The purpose of this organization is to encourage the science of genealogy, to promote education, to gather genealogical information, to preserve and publish materials of historical and genealogical nature, and to promote interest in the preservation of genealogical records in Stoddard County, Missouri.

Announcement: Genealogy Workshop, Saturday June 9, 2012, 10am-12 noon. Cost: $5. To register contact Keller Library (573) 624-3764. Registration deadline June 7th. On April 2, 2012, the National Archives (NARA) released the 1940 Federal Census as digital images. If you would like to help create an index that will be available for free to the public, our society is participating in the indexing effort by FamilySearch.org. If you are interested in helping, please contact Rick Young.

In June 2010, the Society working together with Acclaim Press completed the family history book, a project that took 2 and 1/2 years.
As of Feb. 1, 2012, we still have some books available for sale at the price of $55 each. If you want the book mailed to you, include additional $ for USPS priority mail rate.

The Society publishes a quarterly newsletter with issues in the spring, summer, fall and winter. The newsletter covers the area of Stoddard County, with stories and names of early settlers. As a member your name, contact info, and the surnames you are researching are published.

Queries, not to exceed 65 words, are free to members. More than one query may be submitted at a time and will be printed as space allows.

The new editor of the newsletter is Lynda Stewart. The society expresses appreciation for her willingness to take on this responsibility. If you wish to make a submission to the newsletter, please send it to e-mail address scgsnewsletter@yahoo.com
