My great-great grandfather, Civil War veteran James CHRISTIAN died in 1908.  His brief obituary reads... OBITUARY (Bloomfield Vindicator; 31 Jan 1908) "James Christian Dead-- Died at his home in New Lisbon Township on Sunday January 26, 1908, James Christian.  Deceased was one of our oldest and most respected citizens. He was a God-fearing and self-sacrificing man who numbered his friends by the score.  Stoddard County looses (sic) one of her best citizens in the death of James Christian." My question: WAS THERE ANY OTHER PAPER SERVING THIS AREA BESIDES "THE BLOOMFIELD VINDICATOR" THAT MIGHT BE SEARCHED FOR ANOTHER, HOPEFULLY MORE COMPLETE, OBITUARY?

This may be a duplicate or the first may not have gotten through. This concerns the family of Lafayette Courtney known to be in Stoddard by 1873. He died by fall from a horse in 1897; His first wife was Mary E. "Mollie" who died in mid-1880`s, perhaps about 1884-7. Need: Exacts date of death if possible and name of cemetery where buried. They lived in the New Lesbon area about 8 miles n-w. of Bloomfield. I know he had one more wife: S.J. Dupont on 4-3-1897. What does S.J. stand for? When did she die? Did she remarry? Where is she buried? His oldest son married while still living in Stoddard County-- about 1898. Her name was Mattie, last name unknown. Was this marriage in Stoddard Co. Records ---if so date needed. Should Lafayette have married twice in Missouri, is there a second marriage on the records in Stoddard County. Thanks very much for any help you can be. I am Cliff Courtney (
