From Families Vol I, 1995:
When Samuel Minks was discharged from the Union army at the end of the Civil War, he moved, with his parents, to St. Clair County and settled three miles west of Collins. He started a general store, blacksmith shop and gristmill there. The settlement was named Greisel. The store was listed in Dunn and Bradstreet as being a place where anything from a sewing machine needle to an Altman-Taylor threshing machine could be purchased.
