Ste. Genevieve Herald Ste. Genevieve, Mo. May 20, 1882

The funeral of John F. DARBY, ex-mayor of St. Louis,
and formerly of Ste. Genevieve, took place last
Saturday. An unusually large number of mourners witnessed
the ceremonies. At 2 o'clock the coffin was taken from the
house, 2614 Gamble Ave., and brought to the church "of the
Immaculate Conception", where Rev. Hill, of the St. Louis
University, preached an affecting funeral sermon. The
coffin was then lifted upon the hearse by the following
pallbears:
Mayor EWING, Judge KRUM, Exmayors COLE & OVERSTOLZ,
GANTT & WICKHAM, D.J. JEWITT, M.L. GRAY, Sam'l GATY,
C.W. IRWIN, J.S. CAVENDER, and Rich.
DOWLING. The imposing and endless funeral train then moved
slowly toward Calvary Cemetery, where the mortal remains of
John F. DARBY were laid to their eternal rest.
