Obadiah Scott (15 Feb. 1764 Bedford Co., VA. - 04
Nov. 1840 Minnith, Ste. Genevieve Co., MO.) purchased this property in 1813 from
Andrew Henry, where mention is made of "Scott Spring Branch" that ran through
the Saline Creek in the town of Minnith. This is where Obadiah Scott made
his family home, where he and his wife, Mary raised their family.. There
was already a rock house that had been built previously in the year 1805, by
Amos Rowark on the property, and through the years Obadiah Scott developed this
farm into a total of 657 acres.
On 21 May 1846 in Minnith, Ste. Genevieve Co., MO.
"the heirs of Obadiah Scott," auctioned off the 657 acres of land and the
house. It was purchased at that time by Joseph
Coffman.
It is said that the
Obadiah Scott family cemetery was originally located "in a spot set aside for
burials, just east of the old rock house on the farm," but that through the
years since the cemetery was not fenced in to protect it, the cattle on the farm
had taken a toile on the cemetery & the headstones therein. The
cemetery in later years was moved from their original site, to just east of the
old farm, to a cemetery behind the Saline Missionary Baptist Church in Minnith,
Saline Co., MO., where the headstone and Revolutionary War marker for Obadiah
Scott remains today.
