Date: 06 Feb 2002

In two guardian inventories of the 1920's in Stoddard County, a Myrtle Stockham is named as the guardian of Glen and Alva Anderson (minors)that I assume are the grandchildren of Wilson and Missouri (White) Anderson. What is their connection to Myrtle Stockham, before she became their guardian. Who were their parents and what happened to them. Who was their uncle Roy Anderson that was named in one of the guardian inventory records? If anyone has data on this family, I would love to have it. Wilson Anderson was the brother of my great grandfather.

Date: 13 Nov 2002

Seeking FULL information on a criminal murder case in STODDARD COUNTY c.1882-84? A Thomas DIXON (DICKSON?) is accused of murder in the death of a James MCNABB. Where can I obtain actual TRIAL transcripts (if available)? Murder occurred in vicinity of ESSEX (c.1880?) Only can find limited information about this incident and I have CONFLICTING dates from different sources. Apparently, DIXON and MCNABB did not arrive in STODDARD COUNTY until the autumn of 1879 and rented a farm about 2 miles south of ESSEX. Supposedly both originally from ARKANSAS. Curious about ANY additional information about either DIXON or MCNABB and the trial itself.

Submitter: Dana Oliphant (danalee1969@hotmail.com)
Date: 01 Jan 2002

Looking for information regarding the ancestors of my gg grandmother, Clarinda Anna "Annie" HICKMAN. According to her death certificate, she was born in Stoddard County on March 19, 1857 and her parents' names were William HICKMAN and Elizabeth JACKSON. It indicated that Elizabeth JACKSON was also born in Stoddard County. William was born in Obion County, TN. According to family oral history both William and Elizabeth died young. Annie turned up in Obion County, TN at some point after the 1870 census, and she was orphaned by that time. She lived in the home of Dr. C.P. GLOVER for about six years. There seems to be some connection between the HICKMAN and GLOVER families both in Stoddard County and in Obion County, TN. Annie HICKMAN married Robert Thomas LATIMER in 1877. Robert was also an orphan raised by the GLOVER family. He was with this family in the 1870 census. Annie may have had brothers (again according to family oral history), but I cannot find this HICKMAN family on the 1860 or 1870 censuses. Does anyone have information about William HICKMAN or Elizabeth JACKSON?

Date: 31 Aug 2002
URL: http://www.greglasley.net/lasley.html

In 2000 there was a query similar to mine from a researcher asking about any possible information about Thomas Lassley whose will is on the Stoddard Co. site. I am also searching for ANY information on this man or his family. There is a strong possiblity that this particular Thomas Lassley is my GG grandfather. I have a webpage on "my" Lasleys at: http://www.greglasley.net/lasley.html if anyone is interested. My line of the family apparently went by numerous different spellings of the last name since many of them were iliterate. The above Thomas Lassley does not appear on the Stoddard Co. census in 1850 and his will was written and proven in 1859. Any help about this man or any of his family members will be sincerely appreciated.

I am looking for any information I can fine on a Annie (RAMSEY) SMITH. She owned or ran a boarding house in Bernie in the 1930s. Her daughter Florine helped her buy or bought the boarding house for her. She was my Gtgrandmother m. to Edward SMITH. There children were Sue Duke SMITH b. March 21, 1892 m. Grover Marion CLIFTON, Florine SMITH, Beunah SMITH, Myrtle SMITH. Mrytle I believe and Beunah married twin brother last name RILEY. I believe Beunahs husbands first name was Henry. Now story has it that Annie (RAMSAY) SMITH had a parret that she let fly around the boarding house. The male boarders taught it an extinsive vocabulary. When the bird would sit outside it would yell names at the people who walked by. Annie was my great Grandmother and very Irish. Any information would be greatley appreciated. Thanks, Pamela -- I forgot to ad that Annie (RAMSEY)SMITH also had a son Earl SMITH that went by the nickname Bud or Buddy

I am looking for information on the family of my grandfather Joseph Pollard STEWART b 2 Oct. 1894, son of Philip STEWART and Olive (Ollie) DAVIS. I don't have any information before that. After Philip died she married Hary Earickson and I found them in Butler County, MO in the 1910 census in Poplar Bluff, MO. I think that Philip may have lived in Stoddard County, MO before that. I'd really appreciate any help that you can give me. Mary Stewart

Wondering if Stoddard County has a birth index and if anyone can look for a William Creety Warren born 1887 or 1888 (maybe even 1886?). Parents were William Jasper Warren and Mary Jane Banks. Family actually lived in Stoddard Co. for quite a few years. Parents had at least two more children there, one in (Earlie - female) 1889 and one in (Iva Pearl - female) 1894. Any help finding birth certificates for any of these kids would be great! Thankyou very much. The parents were married March 14, 1886 in Dexter. I do have that certificate.
