I am seeking information regarding Allen S. Flippin (B 1842) and his wife, Martha A. (Holt) Flippin. I believe this family came to Missouri and Stoddard County about 1870-1871 settling near Acornridge with their 3 daughters. I believe they were in Kentucky for about a year before coming to Missouri. They originated from Gibson County Tennessee.
The oldest daughter was Mary (Molly) E. Flippin, who is my great grandmother. She married William H. Poe of West Pleasant Valley.
My most intense search is for the burial place of Allen S. (Spencer?) Flippin who died 16 April 1873. I am also seeking details about the circumstances of his death.
I believe Martha Flippin died in 1904 because there is an application for letters testamentary filed with the probate judge by William Poe in April 1904. It lists Molly Poe and the children of her sister, Rhoda McNair, as heirs.
If I could locate relatives of the McNairs from this line, they might have information.
The 1880 census lists Martha Flippin in Duck Creek township with her 3 daughters. The nine-year-old was born in Missouri; the eleven-year-old was born in Kentucky; and Molly, 13 at the time, was born in Tennessee.
For this reason, I believe Allen Flippin was killed in Missouri. I cannot find any record of the Flippins any where in a 1870 census search.
If I find the grave of Allen Flippin and his wife, I am hopeful I can uncover details about his death.
I have a 1890 letter to Martha Flippin from her father which admonishes her to apply for a Civil War Widow's pension. He tells her to go to the courthouse in Bloomfield and make application. However, in the letter he mentions several times not to discuss how Allen Flippin died, "just that he died."
There are two stories I know of about Allen Flippin's death:
Our family legend goes that he was killed by “Night Riders”. Indeed the birth of their 9 year old daughter would have placed Allen in Missouri in 1873. Of course, that does not mean he may not have gone home to Gibson County, Tenn. for a visit and met his demise there.
There is another story told to my father back in the 1970’s by an old woman in Kennett named Ross. According to that story, a school teacher named Ross was shot and killed and family members assumed the deed was done by Allen Flippin. The motive behind this was that both Allen and this man Ross were involved in a love triangle with some woman. A member of the Ross family (I think this woman’s father-in-law) killed Allen Flippin in revenge.
I would appreciate any information on the burial place of Allen and Martha Flippin, the McNairs, or any land deeds or documents that may be available.

I am desperately seeking information about my great-grandfather Joshua Benton McClure (I believe they called him Bent) who lived in Puxico, Missouri.
