SURNAMES: WILLIAMS, BRADFORD, MCSWAIN
QRYTEXT:
Looking for
a great-grandfather in MO.
Alonzo A. WILLIAMS m. Annie Sara(h) (or Anna W.) BRADFORD in the
early
1880s, possibly 1881 in Stoddard Co. they had 2 sons: Freeman
Arthur
and Grover Thomas, born 17 Sept 1884, in Paris, TN, he said.
There might
have been another boy and girl, but they did not survive.
Alonzo was
said to be "a big Mason" and raised tobacco on the farm. He and
the 2
deceased children are said to be buried on the farm, 6 miles
from the
courthouse.
Alonzo died before 1892-93, when Annie took the boys to Kaufman
Co. TX.
She made her living as a seamstress and milliner, and was a
staunch
Church of Christ member in later life. She died in Kaufman Co.
in 1938.
Grover said that a cousin, Dr. Leslie MCSWAIN, was appointed
guardian of
the estate. Another cousin, Ted WINN/WYNN(GWYNN) bought the
farm when
both sons were of legal age, i.e., 1905.
Grover T. WILLIAMS turned 21 on 17 Sept 1905, and coincidentally
(or
not), married 1 Oct 1905, possibly on the proceeds from the sale
of the
farm.
This is the only lead I have on WILLIAMS or BRADFORD. Do these
names
sound familiar to anyone? Please contact me by email with info on
parents, sibs, or other data on the names listed here.
Is there any resource in the county for Masonic membership in
this era?
what about medical licenses?
Any leads or advice would be appreciated.
Thank you. L. Miller
