J. T. ARMSTRONG DIED SATURDAY NIGHT

____________

 

     J. T. Armstrong died at his home near Arthur at 7:40 o'clock Saturday evening, after a few days illness with pneumonia.  Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Arthur Baptist church, conducted by Rev. W. B. Bull, and the remains were buried at Balltown cemetery.

     James Thomas Armstrong was born in Sangamon county, Illinois, February 10, 1842.  Growing to manhood he was married in that state.  Seven children were born to them.  In 1884 he came with his family to this county and located on the farm near Arthur where he died.  His wife passed away in 1899.  He was married the second time and seven children was the result of the union.  Twelve of the fourteen children survive him.

     During the conflict of the sixties he served three and one-half years on the Federal side and was in some of the great engagements of the war.

     He was a member of Mt. McGregor Post No. 252, G. A. R., an organization which the grim reaper is rapidly diminishing in number.  Deceased had been a member of the Metz M. E. church, South, for a number of years and was a faithful believer in the doctrine of christianity.
