WILLIAM  POLK  BARNETT

MARIA  THERESA  CAROLINE  CATON

 

 

 

     William Polk Barnett was born March 1, 1847 in Bates/Vernon County, Missouri.  His parents, Robert and Eliza (Hudson) Barnett, were both killed in a buggy accident about 1851 in Vernon County.

     Maria Theresa Caroline Caton was born March 15, 1856 in Vernon County; and her parents were Hugh M. and Nancy Ann (Harvey) Caton.

     They were married June 14, 1870 in Vernon County.  Sometime after their marriage, they discovered that they had both been born in the same log cabin in Vernon County, Missouri.  Robert Barnett first owned the cabin, and later Hugh Caton purchased the farm.

 

 

OLD RESIDENT DIES AFTER ATTENDING FRIEND'S FUNERAL

     Mrs. Theresa Caroline Barnett, 79, a resident of Pottawattamie county for sixty years, died Sunday of a stroke suffered as she was returning from the funeral of Thomas Osborn of Weston.

     Mrs. Barnett died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Cleary of Underwood, with whom she had been living for several years.
Mrs. Barnett was born in Nevada, Mo. She came to Pottawattamie county in 1875.

     She is survived by three sons, Dr. Reu [Ren] L. Barnett of Atlantic, Ray W. Barnett of Hardin township and Ralph W. Barnett of Hazel Dell township; three daughters, Mrs. Frances B. Jones and Katie W. Barnett of Iowa City and Mrs. Cleary of Underwood; one brother, Robert L. Caton of Fresno, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Parman of Arkansas, Kan.; and twelve grandchildren.

     All of her children were with her at the time of her death.

     Funeral services will be held Tuesday at the home of her daughter in Underwood at 1:30 p.m. and at the Hazel Dell church at 2:30 p.m. Rev. James Payne will officiate, assisted by Dr. George Crissman. Burial will be in Hazel Dell cemetery. Cutler's funeral home will be in charge.
