JOSEPH BIGGS

From the 1887 History of Vernon County, Missouri.  Brown & Co., p. 893-394:

JOSEPH BIGGS

(Farmer, Section 2, Post-office, Nevada).

Joseph Biggs was born in Belmont county, Ohio, July 29, 1822.  His father, John Biggs, was a native of Harrison county, Ky., and the maiden name of his mother was Charlotte Coleman, whose birthplace was in Pennsylvania.  There were six children in their family, Joseph being the second son and third child.  His father was a ship carpenter by trade, and the son followed this business until nearly twenty years of age.  In 1840 he removed to Lewis county, Mo., and from that time until his removal to Vernon county, in 1883, he was engaged in agricultural pursuits.  At the date mentioned he came to Vernon county and now owns 160 acres of good land.  He married Miss Josephine Nunn in 1849.  She was born in Lewis county, Mo.  They have a family of six children:  Alta, wife of H. E. Milan; Henderson D., Martin, Addie, wife of Wm. D. Atley, Lula and Horace.  Mr. Biggs is a plain, unassuming man whose aim in life is to do right, and he commands the respect of all who know him.
