FAIRFIELD  BCROFT

From the 1887 History of Vernon County, Missouri.  Brown & Co., p. 417:

FAIRFIELD B. CROFT

(Farmer, Section 33, Post-office, Hoover).

Mr. Croft is a Kentuckian by birth, and as such seems to display in all his operations those principles and characteristics peculiar to people of the Blue Grass State.  His farm of 160 acres is well improved; its surroundings are neat and convenient, and attractive in appearance, and, indeed, a glance at the whole farm will indicate that energy and industry are not wanting.  As a natural result success is attending Mr. Croft’s efforts, and for a young man he is becoming quite popular and prominent in his locality.  He was born in Christian county, Ky., January 20, 1859, and was reared there on a farm, subsequently coming to Missouri in 1873 and settling in Vernon county, where he has since remained.  In 1868 he was united in marriage with Miss Emily Armstrong, like himself a native of Christian county, Ky., and an estimable young lady.  Five children have resulted from their happy married life:  George DeM., James C., Edward E., Tessie P. and Harvey are now living, and six are deceased.  Mr. Croft’s father, Henson Croft, of Kentucky nativity, was a farmer by calling; he died in 1863 leaving seven children, of whom Fairfield was the fifth child.  The mother, whose maiden name was Matilda Ashmore, died in 1881.
