Saturday November 14, 2009  10 a.m.

Computer Lab, Rubie Burton Bldg Room 109, Cottey College, MO

INTERNET GENEALOGY RESEARCH SEMINAR

The November meeting will be a special 2-1/2-hour seminar focusing on using computers and the Internet in genealogy research, conducted by Helen Lodge, noted area genealogist.  Sessions will include record-keeping programs such as RootsMagic or Family TreeMaker and effectively using Internet resources such as Ancestry, Family Search, Cyndi’s List, and US Gen Web.

This hands-on computer workshop/seminar is open to all persons interested in family history research.  It is suggested that attendees have a familiarity with computers and the internet to get maximum benefit from the workshop, but non-computer users are also welcome.

The program will be held in Room 109 of the Rubie Burton Bldg. on the Cottey College Campus.  From U.S. 54 / W. Austin Blvd. at the east side of the campus, turn south onto South Chestnut Street.  The Rubie Burton Building is immediately on your right.  Parking is available in the lot south of the building. Directional signs will be in place from the parking lot into the building.

There will not be a business meeting at the November meeting to allow more time for the seminar.  Attendees should plan on a late lunch.  There is no fee to attend, and there is plenty of room.  If questions, please email the society or contact Neoma at 417-465-2389.

Please note that the location is the Computer Lab at Cottey College.

Cedar County Probate Records Workshop

Cedar County Courthouse, Stockton, Missouri

Thursdays, 10 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

This is a workshop to prepare the Cedar County Probate Records to be microfilmed and indexed.  Presently, the work includes opening, cleaning, and flattening documents and placing them in folders and labeling the folders.  If you live in this area and can help, please come to the Cedar County Courthouse on a Thursday and you will be shown the "how to's."  The more help we get with this project, the sooner these records and the index will be available to researchers!  Volunteers are presently working on Box 17 -- Thank you, Volunteers!

The Vernon County Genealogical Society first organized in 1982.  Several years later the organization expanded its membership and geographic area to also include Cedar and St. Clair Counties, and the name was changed to Tri-County Genealogical Society (Vernon-Cedar-St. Clair).  The Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and donations to the Society are tax exempt.

The Society promotes genealogy research and is active in several projects.  The Society's main genealogy research collection is housed in the Genealogy Department of the Nevada Public Library where it is available, without charge, to researchers during all hours that the Public Library is open.

The Tri-County Genealogical Society meets on the second Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. with a business meeting followed by a program pertaining to some aspect of genealogy or history.  Meetings are alternately held at:

-- Nevada Public Library Meeting Room, 212 W. Walnut St, Nevada, MO.

-- Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 302 E. Hospital Rd, El Dorado Springs, MO.

Visitors are welcome to attend all meetings, and membership in the Society is open to anyone interested in family or historical research.  A newsletter is printed monthly.
