Tri-County volunteers
conduct limited research on behalf of the Society at the following rates,
paid in advance. Research fees are used to procure additional genealogical
resources for our local public libraries. Please note that we do not accept research requests
via email.

NEWSPAPER ARTICLE LOOKUPS - $5
when event date is known (month, day, and year); i.e., obituary, marriage
announcement, birth announcement, etc. The fee covers searching; if an
article
is located, it will be copied and mailed at no additional charge.

MARRIAGE RECORD LOOKUPS
- $1 each; include a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
Send marriage record lookups to Recorder's Office, 100
West Cherry Street, Nevada, MO 64772. Give the names and
date or approximate date of the marriage. Be sure to include
$1 for each requested record and a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
If sending a personal check for marriage records, make it payable to Vernon
Co. Recorder's Office.

COPY OF ARTICLE FROM MICROFILMED
NEWSPAPER - $5 each. Provide the 1) year and name of the newspaper as
listed in the newspaper book index, 2) the name of the individual, and 3)
the page
number. See the online indexes at the Genealogy Department link
below. (This does not include the "Birth & Death Notices from Nevada
Newspapers 1883-1893 Index.")

If you can place your
family in Vernon County and would like to have research conducted for you,
please send specific detailed information on the family, the extent of
research you would like to have done, and the fee. A minimum 2-hour fee
($16) is required to begin general research. If the desired information is
found in less than one hour, the second hour’s fee will be refunded to you.
If additional research time is necessary, you will be advised and your
approval obtained before the additional research is conducted.

When
requesting general research, please provide us with a list of what
information you already have on the individual(s) so we will not duplicate
that and we can "see" what this family looks like and know where to look and
what records or additional information might be found here. It will
help our researchers if you will also list where you have found them in the
U.S. Federal census by including census year(s), location(s), and how the
name was spelled.

Society members who conduct research on behalf of the Society are usually at
the Library one day a week. Research requests are handled in the order
in which they are received. Please allow up to 4-6 weeks for the research to
be conducted although it usually does not take that long.
