Stotesbury, Henry Township Vernon County, Missouri |

|
From the 1911 History of Vernon County, Missouri: "On the Kansas City Southern Railroad, is a thriving little village of 200 or more inhabitants, and is surrounded by a rich farming country. Owing to its close proximity to Kansas City, and having a direct railroad line north and south, makes this a favored shipping point. The people are progressive, and fully alive to their opportunities. Hoover, the predecessor of Stotesbury, was laid out in section 20, in 1883, by Jacob Rumbaugh and Richard Kaufman. But after the building of the K. C., P. & G. Railroad, now known as the Kansas City Southern, the town site was abandoned and the new town of Stotesbury absorbed it."
The town of Stotesbury is located in the southeast corner of Section 21, Henry Township, about 3/4 mile east of the original town of Hoover.

About Stotesbury The name of Hoover postoffice has been changed to Stotesbury. Stotesbury station, on the Kansas City, Pittsburg and Gulf railroad is three-fourths of a mile east of Hoover and there is talk of moving the old town of Hoover to Stotesbury. The new town consists of a depot and forty acres of town lots. The site is beautiful for a town. It is on rolling prairie, without a ravine or branch. A. B. Gordon was postmaster at Hoover, and he has been appointed postmaster for the new town of Stotesbury. Mr. Gordon was the republican nominee for county judge at the last election, and is also a member of the republican county committee. It is understood that F. E. Gordon who is a son of A. B. Gordon, and has been a deputy in the Hoover office, is to be appointed postmaster at the new town. The Nevada Daily Mail, Nevada, Missouri. Saturday, May 13, 1893. |
